While there has been a flood of information about games like Fable III and Halo: Reach, other favourites didn’t end up getting the star-treatment I was hoping for. Case in point: X10’s coverage of Crackdown 2. I was looking to hearing and seeing a lot more about this game then what ended up being provided, regardless there are a few tidbits to be provided, and some new screenshots to ogle.
So what’s new for Crackdown 2? Well the game starts out with you assuming the role of an “Advanced Agent” helping the Agency take on a new threat in the form of a warring faction known as “The Cell and The Freaks.” Due to that fact the story for the second game represents an all out war against a soul opposing faction you’re role is stepped up in.

Now you’ll act as judge, jury, and executioner. You’ll take to the streets to once more help take a bite out of crime by knocking down crime kingpins, and waves of monstrous “freaks.” To take the fight to them you’re going to need a whole lot more room to grow, which seems to be the key feature being touted at this year’s X10.
Information provided about the game is focused towards the massive size of the game, and a new four-player co-op system. It’s not just that the city has expanded though, but how you’ll be getting around it. The game isn’t just the surface layer of the city any longer. While you’ll still be running/driving around the streets of Pacific City, the innovation comes in the form of new exploration methods. In the press release issued at X10 developer Ruffian spoke of exploring multiple levels of the city including the air above and the sewers below.

Ruffian speaks of removing the limitations of the game world wherever possible, judging by the first game Crackdown is the venue to make such a bold claim. If anyone was going to take the restraints off of a world and let you and your friends do whatever the hell you want, Crackdown would be it. So while I go ahead and wait quietly for more information on the game, feel free to take a look through some of the new screenshots provided from Microsoft’s X10.
By the way, the shiny orange armor there is for pre-orders only. So if you feel the need for some orange, best slap your money down sooner than later.
