A writer is chosen for the Dante's Inferno film

Even before it was officially announced EA’s upcoming Dante’s Inferno was an extremely hot commodity especially when it came to the film adaptation.  I guess either EA must’ve done one hell of a pitch or the movie studios were starving for projects since there was a bidding war over the rights for the film before a single screenshot or actual details about the game were released.

Now with the release of the game a few months away it looks like the film is starting to make some headway.  Visceral Games has announced that Academy Award nominee Will Rokos will be writing the script for the film.  Obviously most of you have no clue who the hell Will Rokos is but his Academy Award nom was for writing the drama “Monsters Ball” which as we know was the film Halle Berry won her Oscar for.  I don’t know if going from an Oscar nomination for an extremely good yet depressing drama to adapting a story that seems to bastardize one of the most acclaimed poems in literature is a sign of a career on the decline.

Comments like these don’t really inspire hope and seem to be rather run of the mill:

Will Rokos wrote:
“Taking such a naturally rich and deep universe and adapting for the video game has been one of the most interesting and challenging projects I’ve worked on,” said Rokos. “I really got into re-imagining Dante as a flawed hero with a dark past, and his determination to save the love of his life from a terrible fate.

“It was a truly unique experience to re-create one man’s hell, one circle at a time.”

That’s the only update on the Dante’s Inferno film for today and I’m interested to see how the development of the film will change, if any, after the game is released in February.

I dunno what to expect from this game / franchise now. They are pumping so much money into it but everything I've seen is just...ok. Great art direction but it just looks like God of War to me.
