In case you’re yearning for yet another Batman video game experience you may or may not be interested in Gotham City Impostors, the new Batman FPS spin-off game. Helmed by Monolith Productions (F.E.A.R), Gotham City Impostors has gamers assuming the roles of would be vigilantes mimicking themselves after Batman and the Joker. WB Games unveiled Gotham City Imposters earlier this year but it hasn’t been until now that the studio has announced when the game would drop.
Those who want to experience the world of Batman, albeit with a heavy spin, from the first person perspective can do so on January 10th when the game drops for the PSN, XBLA, and PC. The game is currently in a closed beta but gamers will finally get their chance to try the game out themselves when the beta becomes open to all next month. All that’s required to get in on the beta action is doing the standard register business on the official site for the game.
I haven’t played Gotham City Impostors in its current form, but after playing it at E3 and PAX Prime this year I was less than impressed with the game. Not every Batman game needs to be serious, but the very cut & dry nature of Gotham City Impostors combined with its slightly unbalanced and less than inspiring gameplay made me wish I was doing something else. Maybe Monolith has managed to turn things around based on receiving fan input from the closed beta, but I think even with that it may be hard to make the game fun without entirely retooling the concept and starting from scratch.
