Warner Brothers set to reboot the Mortal Kombat film franchise

With Midway Chicago hard at work on the next installment of Mortal Kombat it shouldn’t come as that much of a surprise that Midway owner Warner Brothers is looking to reboot the MK film franchise.  Bloody Disgusting is reporting that WB plans to reboot the Mortal Kombat franchise and they’ve gotten Hollywood’s next hot writer, Oren Uziel, to write it. The thing is Oren actually hasn’t written a script that’s gone into full production yet but his latest work “Shimmer Lake”, which is a murder mystery, has gotten some buzz which means he’s the hot stuff right now.

I love the MK franchise and am a huge fan of the first MK film so I just hope WB has the best intentions with this reboot.  With the next MK game reportedly going back to its roots of over-the-top violence and fatalities here’s hoping that WB follows suit and gives us what we’ve all been dreaming of: an R-rated MK movie.  And I’m I the only one who’s tempted to start a pointless petition for Zack Snyder to direct the film merely to drum up interest?

There could be a slim chance. He's a gamer so he could have a soft spot for MK and if the material is good he may be driven to tackle another character action/fantasy piece.

Shouldn't they be focusing on rebooting the game series properly this time rather than wasting time with a movie?

Oh trust me Midway Chicago seems to be doing that or at least trying to do that. This whole movie thing is just a whole other thing that's just WB trying to capitlize and push the MK brand to the glory it once had.

100% the movie will launch with a new game. Warner is doing this because they have the power to make a movie and they will want to use what they are known for / good at (movies) with this new venture (owning Midway). I want this movie so bad.

Just give me Jade, Sonya, and Kitana in HD and I'll be happy!
