The PSN could be going old school with some NeoGeo games

The Wii and XBLA have a nice amount of old-school gaming goodness while the PS3 practically has none. Outside of a few Midway classics such as Mortal Kombat II and a few PS1 games the PSN has mostly been home to tons of original games. This of course has been due to Sony’s desire to push original and innovative content instead of sitting on their laurels but the PSN could be getting a bit of old school gaming in the near future.

As per the listings on the ESRB’s website it looks like the PSN will be getting several NeoGeo classics such as Baseball Stars Professional, League Bowling, Super Sidekicks and Alpha Mission II.  The ESRB lists all of the NeoGeo classics as individual games for both the PS3 and PSP instead of one listing. So either we’re getting a small HD remake for the PS3 and the old-school game for the PSP. Or we could all be looking into this too much as it simply could be a case of the ESRB saying all the game are playable both on the PS3/PSP, similar to the PSP Minis.

It would certainly be nice if the PSN got a Virtual Console type feature or at least a few releases as a portion of gamers have wanted some old-school games for a long time.  Having some NeoGeo classics would be a welcomed addition to the PSN especially considering the JP PSN has had several Hudson games for awhile now, once again reaffirming that Japan gets all the good stuff.
