This news may be disconcerting for some of the hardcore fans but I’m rather excited. It has been revealed that Michael Bay’s production company Platinum Dunes will be bringing the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles back to life in a live-action film for Paramount and Nickelodeon.
It’s been known for some time that the TMNT franchise would be coming back via live-action but since Paramount’s acquisition of the franchise there have been no major updates on the film. Known for bringing us remakes of films such as “Friday the 13th” and most recently “A Nightmare on Elm Street”, a TMNT remake falls in line with Platinum Dunes catalogue.
The big questions such as who will be directing and starring in the film are still unknown. Platinum Dunes’ previous films have usually featured a cast of young B-actors from the CW and I kind of have the feeling that we can expect the same with TMNT. But as long the Turtles are represented well and the action is solid I think the film could be pretty decent. Sure, Platinum Dunes’ previous films haven’t been stellar but they’ve all had modest budgets and good production values, two things that are desperately needed in a TMNT film. But if Michael Bay has a major influence on the film I think we can expect a film similar to the abomination that are the Transformers films.
The TMNT remake is slated for a release sometime next year.

I was super excited to hear about a live action TMNT movie moving forward until I read "Michael Bay". Maybe he'll keep his hands off of this.
