PC VR Game Gun: The best FPS controller mod ever?

Posted in

A new mod known as the PC VR Game Gun has been creating quite a buzz around the FPS gamer community. The unit is a hand made VR gun that takes advantage of a low-cost, dual-axis miniature rate gyroscope to record movements made by the player and translate them into the FPS game of your choice. An image is then displayed onto a 7" LCD screen mounted to the gun which mirrors the display of your desktop.

In other words, it turns any FPS into a virtual reality simulation.

Below is a video demonstration of the first working test unit built. Since then the developers claim to have made improvements to the units design and even created a completely wireless version.

Holy shit. So how long before Activision releases the next Call of Duty or Modern Warfare game with something like this as a required peripheral?

Well based on his shopping list above, the most expensive thing is the LCD screen. That model retails for $349.99 online. But it's a very good LCD screen from what I can see.

With all the wireless controls and the mouse etc. you'd be in the ball park of about 500$ Keep in mind though this is when buying everything one item at a time retail. If someone actually manufactured this it would be much much cheaper.

And like Ian said, if something like this came out with a really good FPS game I would be ecstatic. Unlike the THPS skateboard LOL
