Off-screen footage of Crysis 2, i.e. a somewhat fuzzy tech demo vid

When Crysis was released on the PC it was an absolute powerhouse that required the most high end graphics cards and set-ups in order to play.  Now it’s time for the inevitable sequel and developer Crytek is aiming to achieve the same level of quality that was found on the PC but this time have it be possible on the PS3 and Xbox 360.

Slowly but surely we’ve gotten details and a few images of Crysis 2 and now a new tech demo video has been released showing some of the new technical features the game will boast.  In the video below you’ll see some standard stuff like the dynamic lighting effects and color grading that the console versions of the game will feature. While impressive that stuff is essentially standard in games today and the real juicy stuff comes from the small glimpses of the environmental destructibility the game has.

From there the video goes into overdrive with a few simple but cool looking action scenes and a very quick scene showcasing the facial animation system.  For me the facial animation scene is memorable only because the character looks like an African-American version of Robocop.

Even though this Crysis 2 tech video was recorded off-screen you can still tell that the game is shaping up to be a graphical beast.  While a few compromises may have been made the game is clearly not a huge downgrade from the first Crysis nor is it an obvious watered down console version.
