More Casting Details On Resident Evil: Retribution (Possible Casting For Leon and Barry)

With the start of principal photography on Resident Evil: Retribution about to commence, some additional casting details have been revealed which once again are a bit dumbfounding.  It was already revealed that actress Michelle Rodriguez will be reprising her role as deceased Umbrella Soldier Rain Ocampo but now Deadline New York is reporting that actor Oded Fehr (Carlos Olivera in RE: Apocalypse, RE: Extinction) will also be in Resident Evil: Retribution.  It’ll be odd to see Oded in action as Carlos again since his character bit the dust in RE: Extinction.

Deadline’s report on the matter doesn’t share any key plot details so perhaps Oded will be present in a flashback, perhaps involving Jill’s abduction by Umbrella, or he’ll merely be a clone since we all know that the Umbrella Corporation is into making clones.  Besides revealing Oded’s return to the series, Deadline also confirmed that actor Kevin Durand will be playing a currently unspecified character. Best known for appearing in projects such as Lost (he played Keamy the Merc), Robin Hood, and Smoking Aces, Durand could be fulfilling his role as a character actor by playing yet another villain, or he could’ve snagged the role of Barry Burton.  While not as old as Barry appears in the games, slap a beard on Kevin and he would make a convincing Barry – at least by the standards of the Resident Evil movie franchise.

With Barry Burton possibly having been cast, an actor to play RE fave Leon S. Kennedy may have also been chosen. Actor Johann Urb has been tapped to play an unnamed character who leads a resistance group which aids Alice (Milla Jovovich) in her fight against Umbrella.  We may not be familiar with Leon being a resistance leader, but Johann does have the Leon look down in the hair and chiseled chin department.  Johann may not be an established or name actor, but if he can pull off Leon convincingly if that indeed is who he’s portraying then I’m all good with the casting decision.

Also jumping into the zombie fray once more will be Resident Evil: Afterlife veteran Boris Kodjoe who will be reprising his role of basketball star turned zombie slayer Luther West. That’s all the casting updates we have today for Resident Evil: Retribution but hopefully it won’t be too long before we get confirmation on who’ll be playing the sexy but dangerous Ada Wong.
