Leaked footage from the perhaps cancelled Road Rash game

I have mixed emotions when I see footage for a cancelled game.  On one side I’m usually angry while watching since I’ll never be able to enjoy the product but on the other hand I’m just happy to see what the developers were messing around with and what the game could’ve been like if it hit retail. Today’s latest gut punching leaked video from a cancelled project is EA’s Road Rash game for the PS3 and Xbox 360.

For the past four years there have been murmurs of EA bringing the classic motorcycle game back but we never got an official announcement from EA or a hint from a particular development studio.  Instead all we had to go on was that the game was listed under the EA Europe branch in an internal document and that an 80s rock band said that a song of theirs was used in the game. Those particularly aren’t the things you want to rely on when it comes to a game being a reality and actually being released.

Sadly it looks like EA cancelled the project along the way for some reason but at least we have this leaked pre-vis footage to get some form of enjoyment from.  Watching this video the game seems to have all the Road Rash elements we want such as fast driving and brutal combat which involves a rider pulling a man off his bike.  It’s still tough to gauge if the game would've been a hit but it looked like the developers were on the right track.

But there is a very and I mean very slim chance the game could still happen as EA filed a trademark for Road Rash back in August. Of course this could’ve been for a re-release of the old game on XBLA or PSN or maybe EA is still toying around with the concept of bringing Road Rash back.  One could only hope that we’ll eventually be able to throw a man off a motorcycle and then speed down a highway.

I'd buy the Sega Genesis Road Rash games on PSN.  Trophy support would be awesome too. The game lends itself to achievements/trophies as it is.  It'd be nice to choose your own soundtracks as well.  I would've like to see a new road rash.

Yes please! I hope they do end up making this eventually, it would make a kick ass online multiplayer game.

i love how you can hold onto an opponent. Would be whicked for online play. Sort of liek a burnout with bikes. Would be nice to have a burnout downloadable patch.

It looks like it had promise. Maybe there is some hope that it might come out one day.

Aww that sucks. Even though this video was from early on in development it does show signs of hope. Maybe we'll actually see it eventually. A re-release on Live/PSN of the originals would be sweet too.

I have to agree with Michael. If they used the burnout engine, that would be insane. The crashes would be insane! If they added rag doll rider physics that'd be perfect.
