A knight, a soldier, a master of magnetism and a giant head join the ranks of Marvel vs. Capcom 3 [Updated with Video]

Right this very minute the New York Comic-Con is going on and of course it’s an orgy of all things geek related.  Despite the name, comic books have actually taken a backseat the NYCC as it’s all about movies, TV shows and of course gaming.  More and more video game publishers are making stops at the NYCC, one of which is Capcom. As one may have surmised, Capcom is at the NYCC to showcase Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and in typical Capcom fashion the company has announced four new characters to the roster.

This time two cult Capcom characters are joining the battle of MvC3: Nathan “Rad” Spencer from Bionic Commando and Sir Arthur from the classic Ghosts 'n Goblins series.  For being a megabomb of sorts, it’s really surprising that Capcom is using Nathan’s design from the Bionic Commando remake instead of his sexy retro design from BC: Rearmed. While we may have the dreaded wife beater and dreads look, I’m just hoping that Nathan is once again voiced by the always amazing Mike Patton.  On the topic of Sir Arthur there’s not much to say other than “Hell f&cking Yeah!”

But the real showstoppers in today’s character reveal lies on the Marvel side of things.  Gamers may’ve been a bit worried that the game wasn’t going to have a dominant X-Men representation but that’s changing.  The fan favorite character and master of magnetism Magneto has been added to Marvel vs. Capcom 3.  Magneto is sporting his traditional outfit and I’m really impressed with how his character model looks as the colors really capture the design from the comics in the early 1990s.  Just like today’s announcement on the Capcom side of things, we’re getting an obscure Marvel character – the slightly grotesque but always entertaining Modok.

Once again I’m happy with Capcom’s character choices for Marvel vs. Capcom 3 but I’m a bit bummed out in the version of Nathan Spencer that’s being used. I mean c’mon, I think gamers across the world voiced their displeasure in Mr. sausage dreadlocks and would prefer Mr. Buzzcut and Cool Shades, even if it looks a bit corny and isn’t “modern and edgy” enough.
