The Horror Continues In Dead Space 2: Severed [Video]

I think gamers are still trying to figure out whether to fully embrace new DLC for a video game shortly after a game is released, but I think we can all agree that more of a good thing is never bad; even if it costs $6.99.  After scaring the crap out of us last month, Dead Space 2 is kicking off its first major wave of DLC with the release of Dead Space 2: Severed.

We all know where Isaac’s journey ended in Dead Space 2, so DS2: Severed isn’t another prequel to Dead Space 2 nor is it the much awaited sequel to it. Instead, Dead Space 2: Severed follows Gabe and Lexine, who just like Isaac have the misfortune of running across the Necromorph menace once again.  Dead Space 2: Severed occurs on the Sprawl during the same time as Isaac is trying to figure out what the hell is happening so we shouldn’t be surprised if DS2: Severed shares some levels from the core Dead Space 2 experience.

As a fan of Dead Space: Extraction, the game in which Gabe and Lexine made their debut, I’m glad to see that the characters are back though I don’t want them to be killed off quickly or anything like that.  The first trailer for DS2: Severed certainly paints a picture of Gabe possibly biting the dust, but one day I’m hoping we’ll get a super duper Necromorph killing party if Isaac and Gabe ever meet up. After all, if Isaac and Gabe do join forces in a future Dead Space game, it would open the door for the much wanted co-op mode that some gamers have been clamoring for.

Dead Space 2: Severed will be available on the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live on March 1st. It'll only cost games $6.99 on the PSN and 480 Microsoft Point on XBL to download Severed, which is decent given that it's only two chapters.
