While Gran Turismo 5 is a mere few months away from release in Japan, other car enthusiasts still have to wait until pigs can fly for whenever Sony and Polyphony Digital deem it right for the game to launch in North America and Europe since they haven’t said a peep on when the game is being released abroad.
However, EU PlayStation 3 owners will be getting a taste of GT5 in two weeks with the launch of GT Academy 2010. The GT Academy will be available in a host of countries such as the UK, Spain and New Zealand. For those who have no idea what the hell the GT Academy is it’s basically an event that tests to see who’s the best Gran Turismo racer through competing in a variety of time trials. If you’re lucky enough to win you get bragging rights and other such accolades.
While most of us won’t be able to participate in this event either due to living in North America or not having the skills required to compete it’s worth noting that the GT Academy will give gamers their first hands-on time with Gran Turismo 5. Players will also get their hands behind the wheel of the Nissan 370Z which is the featured car in the Time Trial.
So if you’re an excellent Gran Turismo driver then on December 17 you can test your skill in the GT Academy Time Trial and see if you’re lucky enough to be in the top twenty in your country so you can progress in the Academy and eventually be crowned top of the class.
A GT Academy for North America is likely to happen as well don’t hold your breath for it happening any time soon.
