Since launching late last summer fans have been aching to get DLC for Wipeout HD. Both PSP iterations of Wipeout were supported with the addition of new tracks, ships, liveries and even new menu themes. For awhile it seemed like Wipeout HD was going to be left out in the cold of DLC goodness but Sony has announced the first DLC pack for Wipeout HD in the form of the Fury pack.
Now this isn’t merely a small add-on pack with a few new ship liveries and two new tracks as the Fury expansion pack features 8 new tracks, 13 new ship designs, 3 new game modes and of course new Trophies. Besides the additional game content the Fury pack will also included a new front-end and HUD which you can get a glimpse of in the video below. The pack will also have improved multiplayer functionality which is much needed since Wipeout HD is known for being a bit iffy when it comes to playing online due to the constant flow of error messages.
The additional game modes should the juices flowing among fans as they include Zone Battle which is essentially the current Zone mode in Wipeout HD except this time you’re be racing with enemy vehicles on the track. Zone Mode was intense to begin with so I can’t imagine the madness that well ensue when you play with friends online.
One of the other new modes is Detonator. Now based on the trailer it seem like Detonator is a bit similar in style and mechanics as Zone Mode except this time you’re tasked with taking out various mines that have been strewn about on the track. Players will be rewarded with more points for accurately taking out the mines.
Lastly the pack also has the Eliminator mode. In this mode the player has full access to the Wipeout weapons with the goal of taking down your opponents. Instead of caring about who gets 1st, 2nd, 3rd place it’s all about taking down your opponents and reaching the target score in Eliminator.
Currently there’s no pricing or release info available on the pack but I have to say with the content that is in there I would gladly pay $15 for the Fury pack. The new game modes sound like a blast and quick glimpse of the new tracks and ships look amazing. As a Wipeout fan I’m chomping at the bit to get my hands on this.
