Fist-Bump or Bitch-Slap: Valve or EASports

This is the love/hate relationship between the video game industry and myself. Every week I will pick someone who gets my Fist-bump for doing a good deed, someone who gets my undesirable Bitch-Slap for doing something wrong (or just something that pisses me off), and I'll share my experience/opinion along the way.

This week I replace a previous BITCH-SLAP that I gave Valve with a FIST-BUMP for making TF2 Free-to-Play.

TF fans rejoice, there will now be a flood of noobs on the servers for your devouring pleasure. The TF2 community is one of the coolest and tight-knit groups in gaming, growing evermore with each sun fall. I have only recently fallen into the networks of great people who are die-hard TF2 fans. I find myself regretful that I didn't do so earlier.

This past week Valve has posted numerous updates to their already sturdy game. Dubbed the “UBER UPDATE”, TF2 has received daily additions. Today being the biggest update of them all. Valve announced this afternoon that TF2 will officially be Free. Yup, free. In a generation where F2P games are becoming more feasible to developers, it has drawn the crowd of the biggest teams out there. On the heels of Ubisoft announcing their Ghost Recon Online (F2P title). Along with the success and utter awesomeness of EA's Battlefield: Play4Free, it seems we are destined to sit back and welcome these F2P titles.

-My secondary FIST-BUMP goes out to Nintendo for releasing the forever wicked Ocarina of Time on 3DS, I couldn't be happier with it.

This week I have been forced to give EA Sports my BITCH-SLAP for ignoring the brilliance of my Canucks.

CAUTION! HOCKEY RANT INCOMING! No matter how well the Vancouver Canucks play, or the Sedins preform, the NHL and EA Sports both neglect their all-star status. The past two years have both had Chicago Blackhawks on the cover of their coveted NHL franchise. One Blackhawk is fine, but TWO! Forgetting that tacky fact, the company has decided to put Steven Stamkos on the cover of NHL 12.

How is it that the brothers who have put together back-to-back score-leading seasons are ignored? There has been so few (if any) duos in the NHL that have ever played at the skill level that the Sedin twins do. Our most profiled player, Luongo, doesn't deserve the cover. Our greatest single threat Kesler has a deal with 2K so he's out. The OT wonder that is Burrows isn't considered “elite”, so no-go there. But to have the audacity to say that Stamkos deserves the cover over the Sedins is blashamy and quite stupid (to put it plainly). Shame on you.

- My secondary BITCH-SLAP goes out to all the Duke Nuke, Forever haters. Don't take Duke seriously folks. Where would Monty Python be if everyone expected them to be drama actors?
