With Toy Story 3 set for release this June Disney Interactive today announced Toy Story 3: The Video Game for PS3, Xbox 360 and practically every other console on the market.
Yeah I know this is almost a non-news story since a video game tie-in was bound to happen and since most movie games typically suck you’re probably wondering why I’m bothering to write about this. Well even though I’m not a huge Toy Story fan I am rather interested in what the game is attempting with its open-world nature and the intriguing Toy Box mode.
As you can somewhat assume from the name Toy Box mode will allow players to combine various toys such as army men and green aliens to craft their own gameplay experiences. Disney Interactive and developer Avalanche Software didn’t fully go into actual gameplay mechanics for the Toy Box mode but in an attempt to make players feel like a kid again through playing with toys I have a feeling we may end up with something that is very similar to LittleBigPlanet.
Alongside the Toy Box mode the game will also feature a Story Mode which will follow the events of the film as Woody, Buzz and the other toys try to survive after a grown up Andy gives them away. Avalanche will also include some fresh Toy Story content in the form of new environments and Buzz Lightyear combat sections.
With Disney Interactive really pushing the quality of their products and Pixar assisting Avalanche in the development of the game it’s going to be really interesting and a bit surprising if Toy Story 3 is the first movie tie-in game that doesn’t completely suck this generation.

As much as i love Toy Story ill first rent the game, although Toy Box mode sounds great id rather first see it in action..
