Bloodrayne: Betrayal Premier Image Is Interesting To Say The Least

Last month something cool happened: it was announced that the Bloodrayne franchise was making a comeback.  Sure, a game starring a redhead buxom half human/half-vampire femme fatale may not be the game for everyone, but the Bloodrayne games for the PS2 and Xbox back in the day were fun, therefore there was some general excitement for Bloodrayne: Betrayal.  Aside from the lingering Bloodrayne fans being excited for Rayne’s return (that’s her real name btw), a lot of people were also excited about the project since side-scrolling specialists WayForward (Contra 4) are handling the development duties.

It was a bit of a letdown that with the announcement of Bloodrayne: Betrayal we didn’t receive any screenshots and instead were simply given a meh teaser site. However today has brought us our first image of the vampire action that’s to be offered and I think the reactions are going to be a bit mixed.  On one side of the spectrum it’s nice to see that Bloodrayne: Betrayal is keeping the gore factor present as there’s tons of blood and dismemberment is present. But on the other hand, the visuals do look a bit off, in all their stylized glory.  I know that WayForward has dished up some stylized visuals in the past, which despite not being the best thing out there still manages to have a look that isn’t easily seen in other games. For some reason the look of Bloodrayne: Betrayal really isn’t clicking with me and I’m hoping the game looks better in motion.

Also, in case you’re wondering where the hell Rayne is in that screen, she’s on the right side in pixelated form. I guess Rayne has undergone a bit of a redesign so Majesco and WayFoward aren’t ready to let the cat out of the bag in regards to Rayne’s potential hotness since that has always been a selling point for the franchise.  I’m still looking forward to slicing up some vampires and other beasties in Bloodrayne: Betrayal when it drops on the PSN and XBLA, but I just hope that the game isn’t as meh looking as is represented in the screenshot we have today.
