When it was announced that Mafia 2 was being delayed from this year to early next year I was just gutted. The sequel showed incredible promise and if I dare say it looked miles ahead of GTA4 in terms of mechanics and immersion. But delaying the game was for the best since hopefully it’ll give it more room to shine since Mafia 2 could easily be a contender for Game of the Year next year.
Today we have some new footage for the game which clocks in around 28-minutes. The footage is from a recent demo done at a tradeshow recorded by Czech site FakeEVERest so it’s not direct-feed but the quality is still pretty damn good. After a few brief snippets of action we’ve seen some new parts of the game are shown off with highlights including the games hero Vito taking care of a thug troubling a woman, doing a little weapons shopping, teaching some would be robbers who’s the boss and then getting into an on-foot chase with a police officer. The police chases look like they could be quite fun as they have more of a cat and mouse feel compared to GTA4 or Saints Row 2.
Mafia 2 just seems to ooze quality on all fronts. The character models and visuals as a whole look superb and the vibe of the city just feels right for the time of the era. The game doesn’t seem to be completely superficial though as the base mechanics look to be well put together and more refined than other games on the market.
Mafia 2 is currently set for a January 26, 2010 release.
