Activision's new Transformers game could be awesome

After two awful games based on the mediocre Michael Bay films the next Transformers game could end up being the game we all want since it’s dropping the Bayformers in favor of the more “classic” approach.

Game Informer magazine has the debut of Activision’s Transformers: The War for Cybertron, which is a new third-person shooter from developer High Moon Studios who also developed the vampire-cowboy fps game Darkwatch.

Details on the game are still a bit scarce but it’s being reported that the game is in the vein of Gears of War as far as gameplay goes. Like the previous Transformers games players will have the choice of playing as the Autobots or Decepticons but no details are known on how varied their campaigns will be.

What should please Transformers fans the most is that the game is drawing inspiration from the Generation 1 designs, in particular those found in the Transformers: The War Within comic book. So gone are the mass mess of gears, moving parts and unidentifiable characters that were in Michael Bay’s interpretation of the Transformers.

A release date on the game wasn’t given but Transformers: The War for Cybertron is set for release on the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.

It’s nice to see Activison do something with the Transformers franchise outside of a crap movie game and if The War for Cybertron is as good as the PS2 classic Transformers Armada then I think we’ll all be in for a treat.
