Mega Man fans rejoice! Mega Man Legends is set to be released next week on PlayStation Network. The title will be available for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita.
For players unfamiliar with Legends, Mega Man Legends was the first 3D spin-off of the Mega Man series.
For the last two years, Capcom has steadily released Mega Man PSOne classics on the PSN. A brief timeline:
Mega Man X4 - September 2, 2014
Mega Man X5 - September 9, 2014
The Misadventures of Tron Bonne - May 6, 2015
Mega Man 8 - May 27, 2015
Mega Man Legends - September 29, 2015
There are two Mega Man PSOne titles left that have yet to be released or mentioned: Mega Man X6 and the direct sequel to Mega Man Legends, Mega Man Legends 2.
Mega Man fans have been on edge since creator Keiji Inafune left Capcom in late-2010 (to develop Mighty No. 9), leading to the cancellation of two Mega Man games that were in-development: the Super Mario Maker-esque Mega Man Universe and Mega Man Legends 3, the third part to the beloved spin-off series. This was just before the character's 25th anniversary, thus leaving the IP feeling somewhat abandoned and unrepresented in such a momentous time. Adding insult to injury, the next time fans saw "Mega Man" was as a guest character in Tekken X Street Fighter - except this time, it was just some sloppy, fat guy in a cheap Mega Man suit.
It seems that Capcom has been at least attempting to remedy their strenuous relationship with the fan base, with the inclusion of an authentic Mega Man in Super Smash Bros on Wii U, a complete-works compilation Mega Man Legacy Collection and as well as the re-releases currently found on PSN. At this rate, fans can at least expect Mega Man Legends 2 to be re-released in the near future.
