Toejam and Earl Resurrected on Kickstarter

If you were a gamer in the ‘90s, and owned a Sega Genesis, then the chances are pretty damn good that you were also a fan of Toejam and Earl. The Genesis saw two outings of the intrepid heroes and they became popular enough characters in their time that a lot of people saw them as the secondary mascots for the Genesis alongside Sonic the Hedgehog.

While an attempt to bring them back was made in the early 2000s (on the original Xbox) the series has been pretty much dead ever since.

That’s why it may come as a surprise, to some, to learn that Tomjam and Earl is currently up on Kickstarter.

At present, the funding is around $4,000 in total, with a goal of making $400,000 to actually get the project moving. According to an in-depth interview over on Polygon this project has been in the works for some time and has the blessing of the original series creators (along with, of course, the licensing).

There is, as you might expect, a ton of design notes on the Kickstarter Page including concept art and screenshots from what the game could wind up looking like.

If you’re a fan of classic Genesis awesomeness then maybe go pitch in a couple of dollars. A copy of the game (PC Version) will currently only run you a $15 donation to the cause.
