Fast & Furious: Showdown Officially Announced By Activision

Remember that one time when a new Fast & Furious game was seemingly outed by an EB Games Australia online listing? Well since then, and the listing page being mysteriously removed, Activision has officially announced the game and yes, it’s coming out in less than a month.

Officially titled Fast & Furious: Showdown, PS3 and Xbox 360 owners will be able to enjoy some vehicular action sans Vin Diesel and Paul Walker.  As of now it’s unsure if the characters Vin and Paul portray in the series will be given the redesign treatment in the game, but it’s obvious Activision didn’t have the cash to secure the likeness rights of the two leading men; likely because Vin is still wrapped up in Riddick and we could see Paul in a Hitman video game in the future.

Accompanying the official debut of Fast & Furious: Showdown are a series of screenshots that have been dumped upon us. Ok, so these screens weren’t suddenly dumped on me as I wrote this article, but they were figuratively speaking since we hardly see screenshots of new games released a month away from release.

Featuring gameplay that allows the player to switch up roles from that of the wheelman, or wheelwoman in some cases, to that of the gun happy passenger, there’ll be some variety within Fast & Furious: Showdown but it’s yet to be seen if it’ll actually be fun.  Activision is being realistic in their hopes for the game since it’ll only retail for $39.99 when it arrives on the PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii U on May 21st.

I’m all for dumb arcade action games and I adore the Fast and Furious franchise so this could be a fun game; if simply living up to the popcorn action movie mentality of big Summer movies.  Yet we shouldn’t forget that this is Activision we’re talking about so the bar is set rather low to start with.
