Activision Finally Announces New TMNT Games

After being leaked last year at a licensing expo, Activision have officially revealed their partnership with Nickelodeon to produce games based on The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.  Currently going through a huge resurgence in popularity thanks to the new CG cartoon which airs on Nickelodeon, TMNT could be poised for the epic experience that the property deserves or will once again be sullied with a lackluster video game.

Activision didn’t share much in the way of details concerning the TMNT game as the only pivotal piece of info revealed was that the company will produce and release three games. Presumably spread out over the course of two to three years, these new TMNT games will be based exclusively upon the CG cartoon and not the forthcoming live-action movie produced by Michael Bay, which on a slightly unrelated note is said to be all sorts of terrible.

Platforms or expected release dates (you know the actual pertinent info gamers want) wasn’t even hinted at in this initial announcement.  It’s likely we’ll see Activision spread the TMNT games across every platform they can (next-gen, PS3/Xbox 360, etc.) but I’m more interested in what sort of games the company will deliver.

With Activision/s licensed games branch being notorious amongst developers for their limited budgets and small development windows, I’m concerned we’ll receive a simple hack and slash game that doesn’t do the TMNT franchise justice. Either that or we’ll be inundated with a Kinect game that makes Power Rangers Super Samurai look like a masterpiece of modern game design.

Only time will tell what Activision has planned for the TMNT franchise as we’ll likely receive our first glimpse of the project once E3 2013 or the San Diego Comic Con rolls around.
