Latest Injustice: Gods Among Us Trailer Ratchets Up The Tension

The tone of Injustice: Gods Among Us is hammered down in this new story centric trailer that is so damn serious that it’s worthy of the ever terrific “Just Got Real” Bad Boys gif.  What exactly has caused such a feeling amidst and otherwise arcade driven fighting game? Well how does the destruction of Metropolis sound along with Superman and Wonder Woman getting all high and mighty with a rather intrusive form of justice?

NetherRealm Studios has teased that Injustice would feature a rather deep storyline for its single-player campaign, but I don’t think any of us expected things to go this far. After a rather morbid plan of the Joker’s results in a heinous, yet unintentional act of violence, on the part of Superman (read the Injustice comic for the full details), Metropolis is officially in ruins.  With his life in tatters, Superman has opted to go all Kryptonian badass on humanity by enforcing marshal law and swift justice to criminals.

As the trailer shows, Superman’s new mindset doesn’t set well with Batman as he’s opposed to such a thing, and is even on the receiving end of the new force created by Kal-El.  Showcasing a nice amount of cutscenes, with solid voice acting to boot, this Injustice trailer shows the depth that NetherRealm is striving for and it does look impressive so far.

Outside of having to get used to a series of armored clad heroes, Green Lantern is looking a bit funky to be honest, Injustice will seemingly be giving us the goods we desire out of a superhero game: epic action and lots of drama.  Pending any unexpected swerves or omissions of notable characters, even in a cameo appearance, Injustice could receive the crown for best superhero game of 2013.

Injustice: Gods Among Us will be released on the PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii U on April 16th.
