Three Major Franchises Unite For Heroes Vs.

I never cease to be amazed at all the cool games that come out in Japan.  At this stage the amount of truly amazing games that can be placed under the sometimes dubious triple-A moniker may be rare, but Japanese developers are still doing some exciting things, some of which see our fanboy dreams finally become a reality.

It’s clear that Japan is fond of doing cross-over games as evident by Street Fighter X Tekken and the mech orgy of awesome that was ACE: R  Now it’s time for another crop of established franchises to face off against one another as developer Spike Chunsoft has announced Heroes Vs. What exactly is Heroes Vs? Well the game is a simple brawler which just so happens to feature Ultraman, Kamen Rider, and Gundam all in one glorious package.

Exactly how three major franchises can appear in one video game is still a mystery to me, but I’m thankful for such a license explosion to exist since I do love Ultraman and Gundam.  Featuring appearances by Turn X Gundam, Ultraman Zero, and Kamen Rider W (amongst 15 other characters), the game may not have the favorite character of each property but the list is pretty solid all around.

Sometimes the quality of cross-over games such as these tend to be mediocre, but Heroes Vs. looks good in this typically bombastic debut trailer.  Even with a slightly chibi inspired art style I’m impressed with how the game looks since any title that allows me to kickass as Ultraman is good in my book.

The only downsides to Heroes Vs. is that licensing issues will prevent it from ever being localized and hitting the shores of NA or EU.  Of course there’s always the opportunity to import the game from online retailers but here’s the other kicker: the game is slated for the PSP.  Yes, developers are still making PSP games, which is sad news for the Vita, so unless you still have your first Sony handheld laying around you may not be able to enjoy Heroes Vs. Of course if you’re dedicated to playing Heroes Vs. then you won’t have to wait long as the game is currently has a February 2013 release.
