There aren’t too many games out currently in which we can play to fully soak up the Halloween spirit, save for the new Sleeping Dogs DLC, but Sony has put together a new trailer which properly evokes the festive day via their forthcoming title Puppeteer.
Proof that SCEJ hasn’t completely fallen behind this generation in a dismal way that’s completely depressing, Puppeteer wowed gamers when it was unveiled at TGS back in September. A platforming title that features beautiful 3D visuals amidst a 2D plane that constantly changes, Puppeteer seems to be evoking the artistic charm found in LittleBigPlanet while still presenting something new and unique.
We won’t be able to play Puppeteer anytime soon since its still a ways off from release, but this new trailer from Sony Japan ought to give us a taste that will hold us over for the time being. Featuring the same theatric visuals which drive the experience, this new trailer showcases a Halloween stage that features creepy scarecrows, giant pumpkins of doom, and of course spooky ghosts.
Puppeteer likely won’t be as mass appealing as that of a Mario game, but it’s nice to see Sony try something different by producing an old-school platforming game, especially in a generation in which the genre is hardly at the high status it once was. Outside of any potential control issues, Puppeteer is shaping up to be a standout title for 2013 and it certainly helps that the game is pretty to look at and isn’t a carbon copy of what we’ve seen already.
At this point it’s unknown if Puppeteer will feature more themed stages, but I guess we’ll have to wait and see if a new Holiday themed trailer is released in late December.
