Diablo III to release this May

Just like The Rock, Diablo has finally come back to gaming... well not really, but we now have a release date for the beloved MMORPG.

You can now mark May 15th as the official launch date for Diablo III on your calendar. For those eager beavers, you can pre-order now at Battle.net.

It’s hard to believe the last time I picked up Diablo I was 10. While, I like to think this speaks volumes towards my badassery, it really was that long ago. 12-years is a long time for fans to stay dedicated to a franchise, when nothing new has been integrated.  While Diablo never faced the fate of being in development hell like Duke Nukem did; it suffered from the rise of World of Warcraft. Let’s face it, WoW has been Blizzards gold star the last couple of years, and will more than likely stay that way into the future.

Now that we have confirmation on release, Blizzard will have a busy release year with Star Craft II expansion, Heart of the Swarm, Mist of Pandaria for WoW and now Diablo III. In the past few months, Blizzard has made it clear Diablo won’t launch as a “completed” game. Most notably PVP will be patched following launch.

While it wouldn’t be too farfetched to see the release get pushed back, it means great business for PC gamers. The best thing for players right now is competition.  With Star Wars: The Old Republic at the top of the market right now, it will be interesting to see how they respond at Diablo’s launch. They may have to sweeten the pot for their subscribers in order to prevent them from jumping out of the galaxy far far away.
