TL;DR - Feb 28 - SF Monopoly, White X360, Lionhead Teaser

Alright late-night Shogun fans! Time for another edition of TL;DR, recapping some of the days stories that either fell through the cracks, or were just too small to warrant their own individual pieces. Today I shine the spotlight on the new Xbox Special Edition announcement, Street Fighter getting its only Monopoly board game, and Lionhead’s teaser/countdown site which looks like it will end during GDC…

The News:

White & Glossy Special Edition Xbox 360:

One would have assumed that we were getting near the bottom of the well of potential Xbox 360 releases by now. Honestly I was under the opinion that the Star Wars limited run was going to be the last of this generation’s consoles… but here we are. Major Nelson announced on his blog today the release of a new version of the Xbox 360, one that is blindingly white and glossy to boot.

Personally, I don’t get it… but maybe there are some people out there that didn’t like the sleek black version of the console (which has been done in both glossy and matte now).

Want more? Major Nelson’s blog has the full details on the special edition console, complete with a video walkthrough.

Street Fighter Monopoly:

The second in today’s stories filed under the heading of “WTF” and “Why?” Capcom announced today, via the Capcom-Unity blog, that they have partnered up with USAopoly to produce a run of Street Fighter-themed monopoly boards. Honestly, I don’t get the connection, the game has always focused around the characters, and it’s unlikely they’ll let you be buying people on the board… Though I will admit that I cannot wait to see what those Community Chest cards have in store for us.

Want more? Head on over to the Capcom-Unity blog to check out the concept images for the game.

Lionhead’s Teaser Image and Countdown Clock:

Lionhead has put up a place-holder image on their home-site as of today with not much more than a singular quote, black background, count-down clock, and a big red button. Personally I don’t get into the game of “What could it mean!?” and especially when it’s for someone like Lionhead, but if anyone wants to throw wild speculation out there, I’m happy to hear it.

The quote on the page reads “It’s time for a fresh look and feel for our website. Who knows what other surprises are coming…” So clearly there’s something that’s coming, though your guess is as good as mine as to what they are implying.

The countdown clock ends during GDC, so expect all mysteries to be revealed then.

Well, it’s Tuesday and for gamers that means one thing: New releases! This week we have a couple of major releases (well, one new one, and one returning classic really) so here’s the short of it:

SSX releases from EA this week on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Binary Domain from Sega is out for the PS3 and X360.

Mortal Kombat Komplete from WB Games is here for 360 and PS3 (and includes a download of the MK movie!)

There’s been a couple of freebie releases this week that people might want to take a look at. Today, Sony released the Multiplayer mode for Killzone 3, free to play. So if you wanted to try out a bit of that, or had interest but weren’t going to shell out the money for the single-player campaign, then today is your lucky day.

Microsoft Flight was also recently released, it’s basically a free downloadable version of Microsoft’s long-running Flight Sim series, so if you’re interested in pretending that you’re a pilot, there’s really no better (or cheaper) place.

Lastly, I want to end on a little bit of a tease. There’s a project I’ve been working on with a few friends over the last month or so which I’m hoping to bring to Shogun Gamer as an exclusive. I’m not going to talk too much about it today, because the plan is to officially announce at the end of the week… but I would like you all to stay tuned.
