In a move that’s certainly to bring everyone’s ‘WTF’ meters to maximum, Nintendo announced today its follow up to last year’s epic duo Pokémon Black and White. The most interesting thing so far, has to be the titling. Bucking the previous conventions of the series (following up with a new color to follow up with the previous two) the series now gets its first “sequel.” Pokémon Black 2 and White 2 are apparently the next two games launching from the long-standing series, and will be releasing in Japan later this summer.
Aside from the name of the new games, a first image was released, showcasing a two legendary Pokémon that will be covering the box when the game releases.
Shortly after the image was released it was confirmed, via Twitter, that the two Pokémon that were revealed are none other than Black and White’s legendary dragon type Kyurem. So, apparently this time around your legendary Pokémon represent off-shoots of an already existing type, tentatively (officially?) named White Kyurem and Black Kyurem respectively.
Honestly, I’m all for another Pokémon game. I’m one of those mutants that just can’t get me enough Pokémon. Having said that though, the concept of suddenly throwing in a “2” after this many titles in the franchise feels a little lazy… Here’s hoping that concept isn’t one that carries over to the gameplay/characters/story itself.
