According to GameSpot, the game is due to be released in Q4 of this year.
Bethesda released yesterday their first official teaser trailer for the game to further increase the hype level. Here you go:
I want this game now. I really hope it's as big or larger then the first one. I need more V.A.T.S. kills. WANT.
I just finished the fallout 3 dlc a couple days ago so I'm pumped for some more fallout action. But hopefully Obsidian will do a better job at bug checking this one than Bethesda did.
I sure hope so too. KoTOR 2 was a mess of a release, the bugs and whatnot. It was good but not nearly as epic as the original. . But who knows if that was down to being rushed into releasing asap to cash in on the success of the first one.
To be fair Schumi that was the fault of LucasArts not Obisidian - they weren't even allowed to finish the game. There's been a dedicated group of fans who have spent the past few years using trace resource files to finally finish the game off. Had they been given proper time, they could well have smashed the original. So if Bethesda allow them time, I'm confident.
On a side note, isn't Obisidian's Spy-RPG due out next year as well - big year for them.
That's why I said unless they were rushed
But even then, Neverwinter Nights 2 was rather bug ridden. Not knocking Obsidian, I enjoyed both NWN2 and KoTOR2 and each were great games but the bugs definitely hindered them. I still have high hopes for this though. I definitely would prefer a game with bugs and otherwise a good game, than a bugless game that is crap though lol.
The HK factory would have been epic if it wasn't cut from KoTOR2.....
tidbits about the game.
- You're a courier, wounded and left for dead in a shallow grave. A friendly robot, Victor, digs you out, and his doctor owner Mitchell patches you up. You take a "vigour test", which is some sort of electric parlour game. This decides who you are and sets up SPECIAL. The Doc then gives you a Pipboy as he was once a Vault dweller.
- There is an optional hardcore mode, the character needs to drink water, ammo has weight, healing isn't instant etc. Normal mode is more similar to Fallout 3 gameplay.
- The storyline is focused on the New California Republic vs. Caesar's Legion vs. New Vegas residents.
- There is a screenshot of a vault suit as well.
- There is an assault rifle looking like the M4, as well as a new big gun with a backpack, held like a minigun.
- There are special moves for melee weapons in VATS - specifically a move for a golf club called "Fore" which seems to be a groin shot.
- The Hoover Dam is in the game and is supplying electricity to the city.
- There is a quest to rescue a ghoul from some super mutants. The ghoul can then become your companion
- The Geckos are back.
- There are both dumb and intelligent super mutants, including the elite Nightkin.
- Some super mutants look similar to the ones in Fallout 3, while others are new. There is e.g. a female super mutant with a 1950s hairstyle who apparently is one of their leaders.
- Screenshots include a guy with a beard and straw hat, a ghoul an NCR Ranger
- The only picture of New Vegas itself is concept art and not a screenshot
- Some location screenshots include a huge model dinosaur advertising a hotel, some satellite dishes, an array of solar panels
- A character generation shot showing a "vigour machine" instead of the skill book
- NCR base is the McCarran Airport, Caesar's Legion is based in the Vegas Strip, while super mutants are based in a place called
- Black Mountain. There is also a town called Fremont and another called Primm. A topless revue is mentioned as being in the latter. Area 51 alsoappears.
- NCR Ranger armor is similar to a brown combat armor with sleeves, there are concept arts of a Ranger
- Skills have a bigger effect on conversation choices. E.g. someone with a high Explosives skill may be able to have a coversation about explosives where appropriate.
- There is a Reputation system in adition to Karma.
I'll definitely play it at hardcore level. It makes it more real.

if you want to be more real than that i'll just nuke the world for ya.

Oh snap, thanks for the info Sith.
new screen shots

Wow, those images look amazing. What would be nice that they add in this game is the actual gun sight, which would much better than the little crosshairs in Fallout 3.
The Muttie with the wig is hilarious!
Exploding frog-like things ftw!
And ya that mutant with the wig and heart shaped glasses is f'n hilarious.
those images got me pumped...i want some fallout action again:(
If this game is going to be anywhere near as big as Fallout 3 it will likely have a fair number of bugs upon release. Realistically, a company can only have so many game testers doing so much, and in a game with that sheer scope of size and openness, it's pretty much a given that there will be some glitches they won't catch until it ships and they get millions more game testers in the form of us gamers. :-D It's much easier to do testing in a short, linear game such as COD than it would be in a game that takes over 100 hours just to complete the story, let alone cover every square inch of the world

Agreed, not to mention the various braching makes it all the more difficult to test. However, there's a large gap between small bugs and those that plagued my time with the Point Lookout DLC for Fallout 3 - it was nearly unplayable.

all I remember was giant killer exclamation points!!!

How many times did I have to do everything again just because it froze before I saved.
Oddly enough, Anchorage was fine for me. I had the same problems as you with Point Lookout to the point where it wasn't even fun.
got my latest issue of OXM and the cover story was Fallout: New Vegas. I put up some scans I made for your reading pleasure or not. The article starts at the end unless you hit the "oldest" button and it reverses it putting the beginning at the front
Yes! Modifying weapons is what Fallout needed. Now give use ADS!
Cannot wait. Obsidian have a track record of taking strong games and improving them whilst never making wholesale changes. Given how much I loved Fallout 3 this should be fantastic.

you take what they give you! cuz you are buying it no matter what

I have a lot of faith in Obsidian - with the Knights of the Old Republic they took a phenomenal original and created an even better sequel so I'm hopeful they can do the same with Fallout: New Vegas.
