What is it?
Kick-Ass, the latest comic book to become a film.
What's it about?
Kick-Ass follows the adventures of several young superheroes as they dish out justice in extremely violent ways. The plot of the movie should be somewhat appealing to some folks since it involves a young boy who is a comic book fan and one day he decides to become a superhero. Along the way he encounters a father and daughter duo who are on the trail of a drug baron and violence and hilarity ensue. Kick-Ass is based on the comic of the same name which was created by Mark Millar (Wanted).
- Who’s in it?
Aaron Johnson as Dave Lizewski/Kick Ass
Nicolas Cage as Damon Macready/Big Daddy
Chloe Moretz as Mindy Macready/Hit Girl
Mark Strong as Frank D’Amico
Christopher Mintze-Plasse as Chris D’Amico/Red Mist
Who’s making it?
Kick-Ass is the latest film from director Matthew Vaughn (Layer Cake, Stardust) who is quite dedicated about the project as he funded a majority of the budget himself since finding financing for an uber violent super hero movie involving an 11 year-old girl killing criminals was a bit difficult. Vaughn also co-wrote the script and promises that the film will stay true to the nature of the comic.
Why should I give a damn?
Honestly it’s a bit too early to tell. So far no one has seen any footage but the publicity stills released so far does inspire some confidence. Kick-Ass could go down as being a unique comic book movie due to the graphic violence and the visuals, which includes the heroes wearing “traditional” cloth costumes instead of leather or latex. On the other hand it could end up being a movie that only a few will understand and the mass audience finds totally odd due to teenage heroes killing villains in graphic ways. The movie should be well directed though as Vaughn has a good knack for directing and making films interesting.
When is it out?

the screen shot you posted reminds me of those MySpace Super heroes we were posting about a while back hahhaa.
Lol, yeah it totally has that vibe. I just can't wait to see what Nic Cages' costume looks like.
Here's some impressions from the panel yesterday. Sounds like the movie is shaping up quite nicely.
Woah cool this sounds awesome! The action seems to be top notch and the dialogue was getting positive feedback. I have never checked out the source material before, in fact, this forum post is the first I've ever heard of this series. Will be checking this out for sure.
All of the Comic Con clips can be seen here. They're obviously in bootleg quality but you still get a good sense of the direction of the movie.
Liongate Films will distribute the pic.
Woooh Lions Gate!
Kick-Ass will be released on April 16th, 2010.
Huzza! I can't wait! Really looking forward to this film. =D

It not Heroes?
New issue of Empire has a very nice article on Kick-Ass, plus a nice multi-cover spread.
The trailers look good so far, I'm pretty excited to go see this.
I've started reading the comic, not sure if it'll ruin it for me or make it better.
But I'll have you know that the beginning part of the trailer that's going around, part where the dude slams into the top of the car? Is word for word, and the first two pages of the comic.
So, so far so good? I'm not a fan of butchering comics or when hollywood takes too much artistic freedom. (don't get me started on deadpool)
Weeee!
Mark Millar is awesome. I can't wait to see how Kick-Ass turns out. Wanted is one of my fave comics of all time, and while the movie was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay different than the comic, it was still enjoyable. Even if Kick-Ass isn't EXACTLY like the comic, it could turn out ok.
I hope to see it this friday. It should be a fun film to watch.
The reviews are solid for this film, but i was going to watch it regardless.Cant wait and McLovin FTW.
Is out this friday, no?
Yea it comes out this friday/
I saw the movie today and it is pretty good. I enjoyed it but it wasn't anhything out of this world.
Going to go see it tonight.
I'll be heading down to Metro on Tues to see it with Rob and Corey if all goes to plan. I cannot wait. Though a guy that had saw it said it was quote: "better than the comic, because they cut out all the dark and depressing and left the funny stuff." That's a scary thing for me to hear, seeing as the dark stuff is why I read Millar. Sounds like this might be Wanted all over again... sigh.
Just came back from metro! I enjoyed it. I wouldn't say its phenominal or anything but what is nowadays.
It was enjoyable, satisfying, and put together well. Like me! harhar harrr.. *walks out of room awkwardly*
I just wanted to see that brutal little 11 year old massacre more people. She was the whole movie for me.
Someone should edit some footage together of her versus Yoda.
