[Screens] The bearded Medal of Honor soldiers are back

One of the many games being shown at GDC this week is EA’s Medal of Honor reboot. It’s been awhile since we’ve seen the game but EA is putting it in the spotlight this week with its GDC appearance and subsequent gameplay footage set to premiere tonight on GameTrailers TV.

EA announces EA Sports Active 2.0 for the PS3 and Wii

As previously rumored EA is taking their fitness game EA Sports Active to the PlayStation 3 with the announcement of EA Sports Active 2.0.  The game is also set to appear on the Wii once again along with versions for the iPhone/iPod Touch. Oddly enough EA Sports Active 2.0 (which is a working title) wasn’t announced for the Xbox 360 even though it was indicated to be in development for the platform based on a LinkedIn profile.

New Skate 3 video shows that empty pools are a skaters paradise

While my initial attitude towards Skate 3 was something along the lines of “why the f&ck are you making this game now?” that has slowly changed thanks to the last dev diary video which showed, well at least to me, that Skate 3 won’t just be a simple cash-in.  A few borrowed elements from Skate 2 will most likely pop up in the new iteration of Skate but hey, you can’t reinvent the wheel every time now can you?

Exclusive interview with actor Graham McTavish, the voice behind Dante in Dante's Inferno

So far the reaction to Dante’s Inferno from both gamers and critics seems to be the very definition of polarized. Some love how the game adapted the classic poem by Dante Alighieri while others really didn’t dig the thematic choices it made along with the gameplay which is like a scaled back version of God of War.

American McGee goes from Alice to Oz and now it's Little Red Riding Hood

After giving us unique visions of iconic tales such as “Alice in Wonderland” and “Wizard of Oz” the awesomely named American McGee is now tackling the tale of Little Red Riding Hood.  McGee’s versions of Alice and Oz (which was limited to a toy line) were known for their dark and mature characters designs and in the case of Alice the game was known for its rather gruesome violence and an Alice that usually had blood on her.

[Review] Battlefield: Bad Company 2

Overall Feeling:
A more serious tone to the story aided by improvements to every last detail from the first game creates and exciting and entertaining single player campaign while continuing the Battlefield tradition of intensely satisfying multiplayer experiences.
The Pros:
Impressive cast of interesting and entertaining characters. A wide assortment of weapons, all reliable while providing variety. Interesting twist to multiplayer that encourages team work, and staying alive over lone-wolf meat-grinder play.
The Cons:
Almost nothing, pressed to provide something I would say I was a little let down that the story wasn't as campy as the first title.

As a public service to the series and the readers out there I feel that it’s important to note at the top of this review that I neither enjoyed nor completed the original Bad Company game. While I enjoyed the story, and being part of a rag-tag group of misfits that equated to cannon fodder in the eyes of the US military, I found the game-play extremely unappealing.

A new Dead Space 2 enemy is revealed

Over the past month the Dead Space Facebook profile has been giving small teases of an upcoming Necromoph that will appear in Dead Space 2.  Slowly but surely we got a better look at one of the many new abominations that Isaac Clarke will face as he once again finds himself in an extremely bad situation.

[Video] First look at Skate 3's Mega Park aka skateboarder heaven

Ok, I’ll admit it: it looks like it’s time for me to eat some crow. In the past I’ve been a bit critical of Skate 3 since I’m one of the many who thought it was too soon for another sequel and that the franchise was turning into another Tony Hawk situation. But after watching the latest production diary for the game showcasing the Port Carverton University and the Mega Park most of my worries were washed away as I witnessed skateboarding bliss.

Here are a few somewhat new Dead Space 2 images to gander at

So far news on Dead Space 2 has been on the down low for the most part.  But we honestly shouldn’t expect that much media for the game until E3 since DS2 is slated for an early 2011 release so we’re still some ways off from dismembering new Necromorphs.

Visceral Games Commits to Quality over Quantity

Having just released the not so epic Dante’s Inferno, some out there may be wondering what Visceral Games will do next.

EA's NBA Jam revival could be coming to the PS3 and 360

Earlier this year EA Sports made an announcement that surprised many for multiple reasons: the classic Midway arcade game NBA Jam was being revived.  While this news initially received the adulation of many since it’s been years since we’ve had a good arcade basketball game the downside was that NBA Jam 2010 was going to be for the Wii only.  As you can no doubt imagine the choice of platform made a good chunk of people so angry that they probably light on fire just like in the game.

Not so new but still awesome images for Medal of Honor

Besides the initial release trailer and a few magazine cover stories we haven’t really gotten a lot of media on EA’s Medal of Honor reboot. In fact it almost seems like we’ve gotten more media for the MoH inspired game that’s being made by the folks over at NeoGAF.

Fresh images of Skate 3

I’m still a bit baffled at EA’s decision to release a new installment of Skate a mere year after its last release but hey, I guess you got to churn out the sequels while you can. With the game currently set for a May release EA has slowly been releasing new media for the game such as developer documentaries and today we’re graced with some new images for the game.

[Review] Dante's Inferno

Overall Feeling:
Dante’s Inferno isn’t a terrible game nor is it another shameless clone of God of War. It’s just an odd mish-mash of thematic elements which is bookend by combat that fails to get the blood pumping. The team at Visceral Games should be applauded for taking on a project like this but Dante’s Inferno is far from being the next big action game let alone a hit on the same level as Dead Space.
The Pros:
The art design is amazing and it really sets the tone that Hell is a place you don’t want to visit. For a game that is a dramatic mish-mash the voice acting is its one saving grace as the performances from the cast are just terrific. The combat is easy to get into and some may like the good and evil paths players can take.
The Cons:
Combat is a bit uninspiring and there aren’t a whole lot of cool scenarios. The puzzles and platforming sections are rather lame. Visuals are a bit inconsistent at times. The story and the game as a whole never really finds the right tone.

From the moment it debut at the Spike Video Game Awards two years ago there has always been some form of controversy surrounding EA’s adaptation of the classic poem Dante’s inferno.  The first sticking point about the game many had was that it’s based on an amazing piece of literature that was seemingly being diluted into a standard hack and slash action game. Turning a poem of Dante’s Inferno caliber into a game seemed like one of those sacred things that simply shouldn’t be done.

EA scales back on their external publishing efforts

When Electronic Arts announced their EA Partners label in 2007 it was a huge breath of fresh air for the company. With games such as The Orange Box, Rock Band and Left 4 Dead part of the EA Partners label it seemed like the venture proved successful for EA, both in terms of sales and how gamers responded to it.  But due to the tough economic times and in an effort to improve their profit margin EA has announced that they will be scaling back on the EA Partners program.
