Star Wars and EA Could Be A Perfect Match

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away EA acquired the rights to publish Star Wars video games and in turn made the fantasies of gamers, movie fans, and self-professed geeks come to life. If such a thing occurred nearly a decade ago, back when EA was looked upon as a conglomeration of evil not unlike the Imperial Army, this news would've been one of disappointment, but now it’s a reality and actually good news all considered.

Army of Two: The Devil's Cartel [Review]

Overall Feeling:

Failing to build upon any of the established game mechanics or possible narrative elements that could’ve been explored, The Devil’s Cartel is an empty game that features some passable shooting which is plagued by lackluster controls, scenarios that feel repetitive, and a lack of any replayability outside of earning more cash to buy pointless upgrades and superfluous wardrobe changes.  Instead of improving on things we simply have a game that has somehow regressed and in turn assures that the Army of Two franchise will die with a whimper rather than going out with a bang like a true boss.

The Pros:

+ Action is somewhat passable on a very base level.
+ Campaign is short so it’s easy to blow through in an afternoon and gain a hefty amount of Trophies/Achievements.
+ There’s a button/mechanic that allows you to blow stuff up. BIG EXPLOSIONS!

The Cons:

- Plot is silly and characters lack any true chemistry or likeable traits.
- Action scenarios get repetitive due to shallow game mechanics.
- Glitches and random crashes are abound.
- Visuals boast a diversified color palette, but the fidelity is poor and borders on below average at times.
- Big Boi and B.o.B are in this game. Why?  What purpose do they have?

Sometimes even the best game concepts can result in an experience that’s completely and utterly stupid.

Criterion Reportedly Not Doing NFS: Underground Remake

Rumors of another reboot in the Need for Speed franchise have now been debunked by Criterion Games Creative Director Alex Ward.  Originating from EGM, rumor had it that a reboot of NFS: Underground was in the works.

The rumor itself seemed plausible given the previous NFS reboots that have been released in recent years and reportedly jived with tidbits EGM had heard about such a thing. Though now it seems like the rumor is nothing but bunk.

Battlefield 4 Debut Footage Shows Shooting, Explosions, and Forced Drama [Video]

As expected, EA went on to announce Battlefield 4 in a grand fashion last night to live up to the popularity the series has gained for the past decade or so.  The existence of a new Battlefield game isn’t too much of a shocker considering we’ve known about it since BF3 was released and it has been incessantly teased for the last week or so.

So other than not knowing how far DICE was aiming to push the visual bar and up the action, it was business as usual for the Battlefield franchise and that’s apparent in this rather dull gameplay footage.

Another Hollywood Figure Bails Out Of The Games Industry

Yet another endeavor in the video game space by a prominent figure from Hollywood has resulted in nothing, thus showing once again that not everyone is suited to work in the world of video games.  Keen followers of the video game industry may remember a while back ago prominent Hollywood film producer Jerry Bruckheimer announced that he was venturing into the video game arena.

Need For Speed Movie Gains Four New Actors + Basic Plot Summary Released

This may seem odd but we’re fast approaching a shocking occurrence: a film based upon a video game is actually going to enter production as scheduled.  As some of you may recall,  Electronic Arts successfully sold the film rights for Need For Speed to DreamWorks and now the film is actually set to enter production without any delays, last minute cancellations, or other such horror stories that have plagued projects in the past.

Army of Two: The Devil's Cartel Set To Include Notable Hip-Hop Duo

If you’re a fan of rappers being shoe-horned into video games then you’re in luck as EA has acquired some talent to appear in one of their forthcoming games.  For whatever reason they may have, EA has decided to put acclaimed rapper Big Boi, formerly of Outkast, and B.O.B. in Army of Two: The Devil’s Cartel.

Not only will the duo contribute an original song in the third AoT entry, but they will also appear in the game - not just as bonus skins but as original characters. Yes, the marketing prowess of video game companies will never cease to amaze us am I right?

Need For Speed Movie Secures Leading Lady

Development on the live-action Need For Speed movie seems to be actually progressing instead of stalling and dying a slow death over the course of several years. After acquiring the talents of Emmy winner Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad) to portray the lead in the movie, yet another casting decision has been made and this time it pertains to the all important role of the female lead i.e. the potential love interest and key eye candy for adolescent male viewers.

Mass Effect Movie Gets New Writer, Still Not Close To Entering Production

In a sign that the project is somewhat moving along instead of being forever trapped within the nothingness that is a black hole, the Mass Effect movie now has a new screenwriter attached.  Announced several years ago with production company Legendary Films (Batman Begins, Man of Steel) handling the core duties, the Mass Effect movie could’ve provided us with some amazing sci-fi in the movie arena, but as always development woes were abound.

Need For Speed Movie Acquires Breaking Bad Actor As Leading Man

When it was announced that Electronic Arts was shopping around a film adaptation of their Need for Speed franchise I think most gamers and movie fans couldn’t have cared less about the project.
