Xbox One In One Week

Now that we are a few weeks into the release of the new consoles, me being the "Xbox Guy", I chose to sit down with the Xbox One and share my thoughts so far on Microsoft's new system. I don't want to get into the games, as at this point there really isn't any significant changes from PS4 to the Xbox One, and it really comes down to your controller preference.

I wanted to focus more on how the system itself is, how I'm enjoying the interface, the controller, and how use to it I am after a week straight of playing around with it.

Puppeteer - Rehearsal Edition Demo Hands-On

As some of you may have gleamed ever so attentively, the Shogun Gamer crew wasn’t able to make it out to E3 this year. For reasons that were somewhat bitterly mentioned on the Twitter account of yours truly, this was the first major E3 that Shogun Gamer didn’t attend and in turn we were bummed out to say the least.

Saints Row IV Hands-on

Even though I’m starting to be considered a “professional” in this industry there are still defining moments that remind me that I am a gamer first and a writer second. The most recent example was last week when I received an email from the lovely people over at Deep Silver that contained a preview code for the upcoming Saints Row IV.

Saints Row has long been a series I’ve praised as being one of the rare few that understands that the original concept of gaming is about fun.

Xbox One vs. The Internet [E3 2013]

During the week of E3 we, the gamers, are inundated with an abundance of Video Game news. The primary source of which is the panels, which we tend to review, dissect, criticize, and “improve” as though we were those snobby bitches on the E! Channel talking about award-show attire.

Not to say that I’m immune to it though.

GDC 2013: A Prologue

So, GDC 2013 is officially underway (though the show floor won’t be open until this Wednesday). Arriving early (yesterday) I’ve gotten opportunity to get a lay of the land, walk the convention center, and get started on my pre-party drinking  -- we’ll be attending several events throughout the week that offer drinks and socializing. Today (and tomorrow) are primarily about the panels.

PlayStation 4 - The Future Revealed [Wrap-up]

Over the last 20 days the internet has been bursting at the seam with speculation surrounding the teaser trailer of Sony’s “See the Future” ad campaign. While we pretty much all knew it was coming… Sony did a half-decent job this time around of keeping us all in the dark until the official reveal during a press conference (which was live-streamed online) to detail their plans for the next generation of console game entertainment.

Guacamelee Preview - Luchadorvania On Your Vita

One of our favourite PS Vita games demoed at PAX Prime last year, Canadian developer DrinkBox Studios' Guacamelee sets to bring a unique Lucha Libre-style, dimension-switching, metroidvania type game that supports cross-play functionality with the PS3. If you're not sure who DrinkBox Studios are, they're the same guys who developed the critically acclaimed Tales from Space: Mutant Blobs Attack on the PS3 and PS Vita.

God of War: Ascension Multiplayer Impressions [Hands-On Preview]

If there’s one important thing that this generation has taught both gamers, developers, and publishers it’s that hot trends do indeed have a major impact.  In some cases it’s easy to push aside a trend as nothing more than a fad for that given moment, but at other times it’s hard to deny the growth something has received and how it almost immediately becomes part of the DNA of the industry for better or worse.

First Impression: Nintendo Wii U

First impressions often set the mood for all things in life. Think of the time you met that guy who smelled of Bisquick and skunk. Did you stay friends with him? Likely not, because he ate 12 half stakes and forgot to shower. With Nintendo's launch of the Wii U over the weekend, has it become my new BFF or the smelly kid no one talks too?

EX Troopers Hands-On [Preview]

Capcom hasn’t exactly been as forthcoming as we wanted them to be on the matter, but even if the Lost Planet spin-off that is EX Troopers isn’t coming to the West we can ultimately get a small taste of the project.  Since Capcom hinted that EX Troopers wouldn’t be coming westward any time soon gamers have been outright annoyed since the game looks better than how we all thought it would be.
