2015 Abuzz – What’s Going On This Year

The hype train keeps a-rollin', and I've found myself sucked into it and disappointed more times than I'd like to remember (Watch_Dogs sits on my shelf as a constant reminder). While I've tried to train myself to remain "cautiously optimistic" there are some titles coming around in 2015 that I just can't help but be psyched for. Video game news sources everywhere are touting 2015 to be the BIG year in games, and I've got one foot on the hype train myself.

So here are just a few games that I've been salivating over for a while, and look forward to stepping into.

Shantae Claus Is Coming To Town

The superhuman ultra-geniuses and masters of ludo-alchemy at Wayforward (the studio that brought you DuckTales: Remastered, Mighty Switch Force HD and a really good Contra game for DS that I can't seem to find anywhere) are back and ready to serve you a heaping plate of holiday gaming goodness right down your play-hole. So buckle up, buccaneers, because for just a couple of bucks you can swashbuckle your way through Sequin Land on Christmas Day with the Wii U version of Shantae and the Pirate's Curse.

Halo: Nightfall [Review]

It took five weeks, but each of episode of Halo: Nightfall is finally released (they were unveiling one per week since the launch of Halo: The Master Chief Collection), but is it everything Halo fans have waited for? At roughly twenty to thirty minutes per episode (and a little longer if you include the second story experiences which I'll delve into shortly), it's essentially a full length film in its entirety, but it's definitely not a AAA blockbuster movie you'd see from Hollywood.

Halo: Nightfall - Impressions

To say I'm a massive Halo fan is putting it lightly. I have a borderline obscene collection of anything Halo related: games, toys, novels, art, you name it. I've already accepted the fact that there's likely not going to be a big budget Halo movie, as that seems to have fallen through the cracks over the years, which is ok. Instead, we've been given Forward Unto Dawn which was a live action short set in the Halo universe, a direct tie in to Halo 4, and now we're able to see the next chapter of the Halo live action films - Halo: Nightfall.

Dying Light - A Look At The Future Of Zombie Brain-Bashing

Zombies! A genre that is as undying as its slow shuffling stars.

Developer Techland, no stranger to zombie lore with their first outing Dead Island (which I was a big fan of) is creating a mighty ambitious open world zombie playground to explore, raise a little (more) hell and if a healthy dose of luck is on your side, maybe even survive. Maybe...

The Halo Hype Train

CHOO-CHOO! All aboard the Halo hype train! In a few short weeks (13 days exactly as of this post) Halo fans are getting a massive collection that we've been wanting for quite some time. It's no secret that I'm a massive Halo fan. I have all the novels, read all the backstory lore, have all the comics, multiple special Halo artworks, and enough Halo toys to probably open my own store, so to say I'm a Halo fan is an understatement. I don't usually buy into hype, but when it's for one of my favorite games ever, it's hard not to.

Far Cry 4: Unnecessary Animal Slaughter Simulator 2K14

As the sun set over Rook Island, I looked upon my works with joyful fatigue as the once-beleaguered native inhabitants celebrated their newfound freedom from the clutches of drug-fuelled madmen. I sniped soldiers, set C4 traps for the unaware enemy, and blew up Galapagos turtles for funsies. I wore my magical tattoos with pride as I vengefully tore through the jungles with naught but my knife and my almost pathological thirst for virtual blood.

Sunset Overdrive Weekend Live Stream

This weekend Shogun Gamer’s received the rights to be able to show off the first couple of hours of Insomniac’s first outing on a Microsoft Console: Sunset Overdrive.

We’ll be able to bring you the first TWO HOURS of the campaign (with an NDA cut-off, so no cries when we say our goodbyes for the day). That means our intrepid crew, whilst preparing for the upcoming game review, can share with your our experiences with the game LIVE.

Mighty No. 9 [First Impressions]

A couple of years back I had the opportunity to attend GDC (Game Developers Conference) thanks to my time here at Shogun. To this day I hold it to be the epitome of gaming conventions. If you have the opportunity to attend, you simply must.

Xbox One In One Week

Now that we are a few weeks into the release of the new consoles, me being the "Xbox Guy", I chose to sit down with the Xbox One and share my thoughts so far on Microsoft's new system. I don't want to get into the games, as at this point there really isn't any significant changes from PS4 to the Xbox One, and it really comes down to your controller preference.

I wanted to focus more on how the system itself is, how I'm enjoying the interface, the controller, and how use to it I am after a week straight of playing around with it.
