Yakuza 3 demo announced

If you want to assume a role of a Japanese gangster immediately then you’re in luck as the PSN will be receiving a demo for Sega’s Yakuza 3 today. But before everyone starts to prep for their gangster adventure it needs to be noted that the demo has only been announced for the European PSN so far.  A North American release today is highly likely but just be ready to create an EU PSN account if it doesn’t.

Sega seems to keep throwing up roadblocks to prevent Yakuza 3 from succeeding or at least getting over in North America. First they announce the game would be released in the same month as God of War 3 and FFXIII, then they give us crap box art and now Sega is somewhat giving Yakuza 3 the shaft again.

It may not seem like that big of a deal but the box art for a game plays a very important role in whether or not a game is a success or a failure. There are some out there who will simply pass on a game if the box art isn’t appealing and I like to refer to those folks as silly geese.  But after looking at the North American box art for the upcoming Yakuza 3 I’m starting to get a bit worried about how the game will perform at retail.

Being a member of the Yakuza isn’t easy and that’s evident by this new trailer for Yakuza 3.  While you get to have awesome tattoos on your back of dragons, wear nice clothes and strut around like a badass there are a few downsides.

Things like running away from a helicopter shooting at you, getting into restaurant brawls with dire results, and fighting a bull with your bare hands shows how tough it is to be a member of the Yakuza.  But for every moment like that there’s always an opportunity for you to walk away as a building explores whilst looking like a badass.

On the PlayStation Blog the cat has finally been let out of the bag as Yakuza 3 has been officially announced for a North American release.  The bad thing is that as rumored earlier the game is being released in the crowded month of March.

About a month ago news broke that Yakuza 3 (also known as Ryu ga Gotoku in Japan) would finally be making its way to North America.  Despite the previous Yakuza games performing poorly in North America fans will have the chance to continue the adventure of running about Tokyo and getting into brawls when they're not eating noodles or singing karaoke at a hostess bar.

One of the most underrated franchises to hit consoles in quite a long time is Yakuza, better known as Ryu ga Gotoku in Japan.  The series captures gaming traits that people like such as open-world gameplay, side missions, deep storylines and brutal hand-to-hand combat in a series of games that get better with each installment.  Despite the good production values both Yakuza and Yakuza 2 bombed at retail in North America selling less than 50,000 units each which is a stark contrast to Japan where each installment is a huge hit.
