Breaking Down: Assassin’s Creed 3 Cover Art

As Casey mentioned yesterday in TL;DR, Ubisoft was on the verge of a big announcement and today we got our first look at Assassin’s Creed 3.

The cover art tells us a few things about the future of the franchise. As I’m sure most were able to figure out, it’s set in the late 1700s during the American Revolution. If this is true, the events in AC3 will take place 200ish years in the future.  It’s also safe to say a new character will be playable this time around as AC: Revelations wrapped up the story of Ezio Auditore.

TL;DR - Feb 29 - Baldur's Gate, Assassin's Creed, Sim City 5

Does it seem like TL;DR is up a little early tonight? Fair point, it is, but that’s because I wasn’t going to leave you in the lurch just because I’ve got business to attend later tonight! Today’s TL;DR features a brief discussion about a potential Sim City 5 announcement, a potential Baldur’s Gate return, and a tease from Ubisoft. You could almost call this a ‘themed episode’!

TL;DR - Feb 27 - Hawken, I Am Alive, PSN Gamers' Choice

Today in TL;DR I’m going to hit up a couple more stories that happened to catch my eye throughout the day. First up: Hawken has managed to get 10 million dollars for their multiplayer mech game. Second, the team behind I Am Alive provides a video diary showing a bit about how every decision you make matters. Finally, the PSN Gamers’ Choice Award Nominations are out!

Lumines: Daft Punk Edition, The Lumines Game That Never Was

In case you couldn’t tell by my 10 out of 10 review, I really enjoyed Lumines: Electronic Symphony. As a Lumines fan I was amazed by the new elements the game boasted such as the improved visuals and specialty blocks which only deepened an already deep game.  Of course the buttery beats the game featured also kept my inner British raver heart abuzz with tunes that were catchy, memorable and unique – as per Lumines tradition.

I Am Alive Hands-on [CES 2012]

The second stop on my through of the XBLA House Party circuit was a look at I Am Alive. Having seen nothing of the game, apart from a cinematic trailer, all I knew going into the game was that the setting was of a post-apocalyptic world in which you were one of the last remaining humans and the key to the game was survival.

Speaking Ubisoft PR rep Alex Monney, the concept of the game was expanded upon, drastically, before I had a chance to jump in and try out the first 20 minutes of the game.

Rainbow Six: Patriots Target Render Video Is Impressive

Usually it’s rare that developers get the jump on potential video leaks but such a thing has somewhat happened in the case of Rainbow Six: Patriots.  The latest installment in Ubisoft’s long running Rainbow Six series may still be a ways off (it’s slated for 2013), but Ubisoft has decided to release the original target render gameplay video for the game in advance of a purported “leak”.

Ubisoft Rumored To Be In Possession Of Next-Gen Xbox Dev Kit, 2012 Release Likely

There have been rumblings in the past few weeks concerning major updates pertaining to the next iteration of the Xbox – some of which point to the device being unveiled at CES 2012 in January.  For the most part it’s perfectly normal for a bit of next-gen console buzz to be going at this stage in game, but now some more murmurs have been heard which once again point to Microsoft doing the unexpected by releasing the next-generation Xbox in late 2012.

Assassin's Creed Film Deal Has Ubisoft In Complete Control

Everyone was  rather surprised when it was revealed that Sony Pictures had acquired the rights to the Assassin’s Creed movie, which Ubisoft will be overseeing via their new film division.  Exact details of the deal made between Sony and Ubisoft of course weren’t made public but many had assumed it was a common deal and that Ubisoft would have a fair bit of input into the film since it’s their goal not to have another Prince of Persia incident.

Ezio Is Officially Revealed In Soul Calibur 5 [Video]

For once a rumor we see surface online has turned out to be wholly legit as famed assassin Ezio Auditore will indeed be messing fools up in Soul Calibur 5.  Leaked earlier this week via an image of the SC5 character select screen, Ezio will be the first major guest character for the latest Soul Calibur title and he could end up being the best to ever appear.

Sony Could Become The Home For The Assassin's Creed Film Franchise

After entertaining us for the last few years the Assassin’s Creed franchise could finally be ready to make the jump to the world of film and Sony Pictures could be the driving force behind such a thing.  Variety is reporting that Sony Pictures is in negotiations to secure the film rights for the Assassin’s Creed franchise from Ubisoft, with a film likely to enter production within the next two years.
