Pax East 2011

Shoot Many Robots Preview [PAX East 2011]

One of the most fun booths at all of PAX East was the Demiurge booth for their new title Shoot Many Robots. The game was playable, people could submit their own robots to be placed in the game and the Demiurge staff was dressed up quite strangely; fairy wings, beer helmets and kilts all added to the party.

Antec Cases and the Rockus Sound System [PAX East 2011]

I have been mulling over quite a few computer build-plans as of late. A test server to work on some of my Microsoft certifications. I'd like to build a computer to setup with my home entertainment system and well, it's getting to be about time to build that new gaming rig.

Orcs Must Die [PAX East 2011]

It’s been a while since I have found one of those games where I can spend literally 20 minutes or so playing it to kill some time.  Generally you will find me playing a game to get to the end and beat it.  I don't think that'll be the case with Orcs Must Die, and if it is, I feel I'll probably be going back to it a number of times.  Orcs Must Die is a game that you could play to kill a few minutes, or you could play it seriously.  Honestly it’s a damn fun game, with tons of strategizing, great controls, and beautiful graphics.

Firefall Preview [PAX East 2011]

Anyone who knows me personally has on more than one occasion asked me to "shut the hell up" about Firefall at least once. Since I saw Red5's world premier video at PAX Prime last year I have been eagerly anticipating my chance to get my hands on the game. Well, Boston made that happen. I got a ton of playtime in with the game and chatted with a few of the folks over at Red5 while doing so.

Dungeon Siege 3 Preview [PAX East 2011]

Dungeon Siege 3 and the folks at Obsidian/Square Enix did not have their own booth in Boston, but that certainly didn't stop them from having a presence. I discovered their little corner of joy in the Alienware booth and I could not say no to some hands on time with the game.

Portal 2 Demonstration [PAX East 2011]

As a huge Portal fan I am looking forward to Portal 2, as I am sure most of you are as well.  PAX East allowed me to curb some of my hunger by getting a sneak peak at the first six minutes of the single player campaign, as well as some of the game a bit further on.

Trenched Preview [PAX East 2011]

While touring around the Microsoft booth I saw Trenched and was immediately drawn to it. To put it simply: combine giant robots, tower defense and a dash of awesome and you get Trenched. I talked with some of the team at Double Fine studios while I waited in line for my turn to play and it was worth the wait.

Some Hands on Time With Fallen Frontier [PAX East 2011]

Indy row at PAX is often one of the most fun places to be in the entire convention and you can find some amazing hidden gems in there. One of those gems this year was Fallen Frontier. I got to spend some time talking to the good folks at Moonshot Games and they gave me a hands-on walkthrough of the title. Spoiler alert, it was good.

Capcom Covers the Show Floor! [PAX East 2011]

Capcom seemed to have presence all over the PAX floor this year. They had a stand-alone booth showcasing some 3DS titles. They shared a booth with Sprint to show the 3DS titles as well as Marvel vs. Capcom. Lastly, they were a part of the Nintendo booth for their 3DS titles. Noticing a trend? Let's go over what they brought to the show.

Bastion Preview [PAX East 2011]

When Bastion was first announced at last year's PAX Prime in September my first thought was "ok it sounds and looks pretty cool." A narrator who isn't exactly scripted, but instead tells the story on how you are playing the game is a pretty cool concept along with a world that isn't already made but is created each time you take a step; which could actually affect the outcome of the narrator again.  The main goal and plot of the game is that your entire village has come under some sort of haunting trouble and you have to get to the Bastion where the village was told to meet when danger
