20 Years Later, The Lost Zelda Games Still Live

The Legend of Zelda is about as ubiquitous as it gets. Whether they keep up with the series or not, 10- to 35-year olds across the continent will profess their undying love for at least one of the titles. It's no surprise then that Zelda and it's legacy are particularly well-documented. Just take a look at 2013's Hyrule Historia; a compendium of art assets, developer interviews, and in-game lore that spans the first 25 years of Zelda's lifespan.

Puzzle & Dragons Z + Puzzle & Dragons Super Mario Bros. Edition [Review]

Overall Feeling:

There's no doubt that Puzzle & Dragons is addictive, but there's also a lot of substance behind it. Sometimes that substance is over-bearing and intimidating, but underneath is a very polished, very satisfying character-driven puzzle game that I can safely say has earned it's place on my 3DS next to other classics like Pokemon Puzzle Challenge. Some people will get more mileage out of it than others, even between the two different versions included in this package, but it's perfect for pick-up-and-play sessions at any time of day for any skill level.

The Pros:

+Excellent foundational puzzle mechanics
+A mountain of content that will keep you busy for ages
+Charming localization that has a lot of fun
+A great transposition of a mobile game onto a dedicated system

The Cons:

-A lot of bells and whistles that can get in the way for people who just want puzzles
-An unadventurous use of the Mario license
-Some unappealing animations and graphic designs
-Numbers everywhere all the time. So many stats. So many things -Everything explodes in a flurry of colour and light. Rainbows have lost all meaning to me.

ShogunGamer.com Rating :
8

Originally designed as a mobile game by GungHo, the Puzzle and Dragons franchise has dominated a huge portion of the market share for fans of puzzles and also fans of dragons in Japan. It's free-to-play model and RPG mechanics have secured its place on the phones of millions of people. But far too often we're reminded that mobile and console game design don't always work on the same wavelengths. Can a fresh coat of Mario-themed paint and a 2-games-in-1 deal make this retail release worth diving into?

Nintendo’s Wonderful Terrifying Fatal Frame Gamble

For all of the bizarre, backwards localization choices Nintendo makes (or doesn't make), every once in a while The Big N decides to take a chance on something outside their ordinary wheelhouse. It's been happening since as long as the idea of localization existed.

New Nintendo Hardware Hinted

A scant two and a half years into the Wii U's admittedly worrisome sales life, Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata is starting to leak ideas about Nintendo's "next hardware", codenamed NX.

Come on fellas, even the Dolphin is more creative than that.

As far as the actual hardware though (which was asked about at a shareholders' meeting), Iwata-san made a point of saying that Nintendo was "not at a dead end of any kind in which we are out of ideas", and made a point of saying "we first make sure that those who have already purchased out platforms are satisfied."

Hyrule Warriors Adds Amiibo Support, New DLC, And I Keep Playing It

I could tell you all about how Nintendo has rolled out the second part of its planned DLC for Hyrule Warriors and added the ability to scan amiibos for extra loot. I could tell you that the amiibo functionality is unobtrusive and a nice way to gain more mileage out of your existing amiibo collection, but not particularly worth shelling out too much extra cash for.

Nintendo's Ready for Commitment, Amiibo

Fist-Bump or Bitch-Slap: Valve or EASports

This is the love/hate relationship between the video game industry and myself. Every week I will pick someone who gets my Fist-bump for doing a good deed, someone who gets my undesirable Bitch-Slap for doing something wrong (or just something that pisses me off), and I'll share my experience/opinion along the way.

Pokemon Black and White Will Feature New Online Modes

The newest addition to the Pokémon franchise will add new online features to the beloved games through the Pokémon Global Link Website which will launch this spring. This gives players the ability to sync gameplay from their Nintendo DS to their PC's via the internet and access customizable web-only content, befriend additional Pokémon, communicate with fellow Pokémon Trainers, earn and view Worldwide Battle Ratings, and more features will be revealed in the near future.
