Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain [Review]

Overall Feeling:

The Phantom Pain essentially takes all of the best features and mechanics from all of the previous games in the series and melds them into one incredibly impressive package while also introducing a slew of new features that also has the right amount of fan service for long time vets, and opens up the gameplay in new and exciting ways for newcomers to the franchise.

The Pros:

+A Hideo Kojima Game
+Melds the best from previous MGS titles into one
+Mother Base expanding is excellent and worth the time

The Cons:

-Kiefer Sutherland's voice sounds like Kiefer Sutherland
-Many story details are tucked away in cassettes
-Can only save via checkpoint system Rating :

I have to admit, I wasn't one of the ones that appreciated last year's Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes fully. The paid 'demo' stigma that it had clouded my judgement, while I did play it and complete it I didn't respect what it was trying to show us. Metal Gear Solid V is an almost complete departure from what we know a Metal Gear Solid game to be.

Say It Ain't So - Kojima Leaving Konami

Things have apparently come to a head between Kojima Productions and Konami, and we might be seeing them implode for good.

An inside source reported earlier today that after Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain, Kojima Productions will be breaking off from Konami for good.

Mad Max vs. Metal Gear Solid V on September 1st!

Today seems all about the head-to-head! Not only did Unity fire back at Unreal going free today, but it looks like both Mad Max and Metal Gear are looking to stake a claim on September the first!

Metal Gear Solid V Announcement on Wednesday

I used to be one of the biggest fans of the Metal Gear franchise of anyone that I know. I say used to because my love of the series has degraded ever since the end of Metal Gear Solid 4, which I believe should have been the end of the Solid franchise.

Metal Gear Solid 4 was, in my opinion, the perfect ending to a series that I have loved since I was a boy. Thusly, I've opted not to sully my experience by playing a fifth chapter of a franchise I believe ended, especially not in "paid demo" format.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance Videos Showcase Dazzling Action

This week Konami held a special press event in which the media was invited to try out a near finished version of Metal Gear Rising: Revenganvce. Of course the staff of Shogun Gamer weren’t invited to try things out, but that won’t stop us from providing you fine readers with the array of new media from the game which reaches all sorts of levels in the badass department.

UK Gamers Receiving Metal Gear Rising Limited Edition

There is hope for Metal Gear fans after all as Konami has just revealed the European Limited Edition SKUs for Metal Gear Rising.  If you recall, last week Konami unveiled not just one but two exquisite CE’s for Rising which traded in tacky accessories for stylish things such as nice packaging and a rather kick-ass Raiden figure.  Thought had it that Konami wouldn’t bring either of those packages to Western markets, but today we stand corrected.

Konami Unveils Amazing Premium Packages For Metal Gear Rising

It’s always interesting to see how a publisher will not only market a game in the Western and Eastern markets, but to see what sort of specialty SKU they’ll release as well.  At this point gamers in the West are used to seeing sometimes sophisticated premium packages released in Japan that are amazing in every way and easily justify the high price tags that are attached.

Konami Unveils North American Collector's Edition SKUs for Metal Gear Rising and Zone of the Enders HD

WB Interactive showed us a rather perfect Collector’s Edition for Injustice: Gods Among Us earlier this week that perfectly fit the target demographic without skewing too low in an attempt to earn a few extra bucks.  The nature of CE’s still draws the ire of gamers once in a while since quality products that aren’t filled with needless plastic are hard to come by.

A Small But Interesting Update On Konami's Contra Reboot

Games come and go, but there are a few which are announced only to forever fade away from our memories.  One game that may have been forgotten about despite it’s stature within the hierarchy of classic video games was the Contra reboot from Konami.  If you recall, back at E3 2011 Konami released a very short teaser for a new Contra game.

First Look At The Bosses Of Metal Gear Rising [Video/Screens]

As much as TGS is associated with the PlayStation brand, gamers also think of Metal Gear Solid once September rolls around.  Konami and Kojima Productions may share some Metal Gear love to other industry events such as E3, but TGS is usually the one place in which we can look forward to receiving a somewhat excessively long trailer that ends with a comedic stinger.  Such a tradition still holds true for TGS 2012 as we have an extended, and rather revealing, look at Metal Gear Rising.
