Yet Another Not So Great Update On The Saga Involving Fumito Ueda and The Last Guardian

At long last we have some official news on the rumors that have been swirling around game designer Fumito Ueda and The Last Guardian. But alas it’s not the news we had hoped it would be and instead confirms what we have previously heard: Fumito Ueda has left Sony.

[Rumor] Team Ico Head Fumito Ueda Reportedly Has Left Sony

Today may end up being a day of mourning in the PlayStation nation as famed game developer Fumito Ueda has reportedly left Sony. Best known as the creator of Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, Fumito was the head of Team Ico which for the last few years have been hard at work on The Last Guardian.  Eurogamer is reporting that Fumito has departed Team Ico and SCEJ and will be wrapping up his duties on The Last Guardian in a freelance capacity i.e.

The Last Guardian Gets Delayed. Is Anyone Surprised?

In a way we should’ve all seen this coming, but today Team Ico head Fumito Ueda has made a somewhat disappointing but entirely expected announcement concerning The Last Guardian.  Taking to the Euro PlayStation Blog, Fumito has revealed that due to the desire to produce a quality game Sony and Team Ico are delaying The Last Guardian from its originally Holiday 2011 release.

Additional Details On The Last Guardian Are Revealed

Amongst the already stellar 2011 line-up for the PS3, The Last Guardian is definitely near the top if not at the top of gamer’s lists across the world.  Obtaining such a position in the mindset of gamers isn’t an easy feat but such a thing can be attributed to the lineage of The Last Guardian and how breathtaking the game looks in both picture and video form.

Ico novelization finally coming to North America

One of the many reasons that Ico is a classic is because the game doesn’t have a complex or deeply explained story.  Aside from the opening cutscene there’s not a lot explained from a story standpoint but that's actually one of the strong points of the game. Being able to roam around a castle with a mysterious pale girl in tow while shadow monsters hunt you is pretty captivating upon itself.

Breathtaking new screens for Ico & Shadow of the Colossus HD and The Last Guardian

As hokey as this will sound, I think we’re all blessed as gamers to be getting Ico in HD, Shadow of the Colossus in HD and more importantly The Last Guardian. All three of those games have some of the most breathtaking visuals to ever appear in the history of video games and Ico & Shadow of the Colossus have really strong narrative elements which really add that extra dimension to things.

It's official: Ico and Shadow of the Colossus HD remixes are coming to the PS3

I wouldn’t say this has been a worst kept secret scenario, but Famitsu has today confirmed that both Ico and Shadow of the Colossus will be getting the HD treatment for the PS3.  For the past few months, and the last couple days in particular, rumors have swirled that the beloved games from Team Ico would be getting the HD treatment similar to the God of War Collection and the upcoming Sly Cooper Collection.

[MAJOR RUMOR] Ico & Shadow of the Colossus HD remix is becoming a reality

Last year PS3 gamers got an incredible package in the form of the God of War Collection which featured the first two GOW games in glorious HD.  The release of the God of War Collection was definitely something PS3 gamers had wished for, especially in the wake of the PS3 losing backwards compatibility. But besides God of War there was one other collection gamers wanted – a Team Ico collection featuring Ico and Shadow of the Colossus.

Ico and Shadow of the Colossus could be headed to the PS3

It seems that Sony has listened to what gamers have said as it’s once again rumored that HD versions of Ico and Shadow of the Colossus are bound for the PS3.  This is still a rumor at this stage but TheSixthAxis is reporting that the Team Ico Collection is bound for a Q1 2011 release.  That’s good and all but it probably means that we won’t be seeing Team Ico’s The Last Guardian until early next year as well.

LBP Shadow of the Colossus costumes revealed

Last week we got official confirmation that the world of Team Ico would be invading LittleBigPlanet with a release of a content pack featuring costumes and other items inspired by Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. It was unknown if we would all be in for a treat and receive an amazing map pack to go with these items but sadly it was announced over the weekend that the pack would only include costumes, stickers and sound effects.
