Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain [Review]

Overall Feeling:

The Phantom Pain essentially takes all of the best features and mechanics from all of the previous games in the series and melds them into one incredibly impressive package while also introducing a slew of new features that also has the right amount of fan service for long time vets, and opens up the gameplay in new and exciting ways for newcomers to the franchise.

The Pros:

+A Hideo Kojima Game
+Melds the best from previous MGS titles into one
+Mother Base expanding is excellent and worth the time

The Cons:

-Kiefer Sutherland's voice sounds like Kiefer Sutherland
-Many story details are tucked away in cassettes
-Can only save via checkpoint system

I have to admit, I wasn't one of the ones that appreciated last year's Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes fully. The paid 'demo' stigma that it had clouded my judgement, while I did play it and complete it I didn't respect what it was trying to show us. Metal Gear Solid V is an almost complete departure from what we know a Metal Gear Solid game to be.

Say It Ain't So - Kojima Leaving Konami

Things have apparently come to a head between Kojima Productions and Konami, and we might be seeing them implode for good.

An inside source reported earlier today that after Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain, Kojima Productions will be breaking off from Konami for good.

Mad Max vs. Metal Gear Solid V on September 1st!

Today seems all about the head-to-head! Not only did Unity fire back at Unreal going free today, but it looks like both Mad Max and Metal Gear are looking to stake a claim on September the first!

Metal Gear Solid V Announcement on Wednesday

I used to be one of the biggest fans of the Metal Gear franchise of anyone that I know. I say used to because my love of the series has degraded ever since the end of Metal Gear Solid 4, which I believe should have been the end of the Solid franchise.

Metal Gear Solid 4 was, in my opinion, the perfect ending to a series that I have loved since I was a boy. Thusly, I've opted not to sully my experience by playing a fifth chapter of a franchise I believe ended, especially not in "paid demo" format.

Hideo Kojima Makes Some Interesting Comments About Silent Hill And The FOX Engine

Putting a lot of stock into Twitter talk is never a good thing, especially when it comes from the master troll that is Hideo Kojima.  A few exciting tidbits may be dropped here and there on Twitter or even from the likes of the legendary Kojima, but most of the time it’s just pointless chatter.  Today we have something that doesn’t exactly fit in the pointless chatter department but at the same time isn’t an official thing by any stretch. More importantly said Twitter chatter involved two things I don’t think we would’ve ever put together: Hideo Kojima and Silent Hill.

MGS4 Trophy Patch Dated + Complete Trophy List

It may have only taken as long as the gap between the Olympic games and the average term of a U.S. President, but the Trophy patch for Metal Gear Solid 4 is finally happening. No, this isn’t yet another troll moment by Hideo Kojima and the other fine folks at Kojima Productions as the MGS4 Trophy patch is indeed a thing that isn’t a grand illusion created by computers who want to put nanomachines in us or some nonsense like that.

Hideo Kojima Once Again Confirms MGS5 + A Solid Snake Update

Hideo Kojima has revealed something that was kind of obvious to begin with but in addition he also dropped a potentially major tidbit that could be awesome for all the wrong reasons.  We know that Kojima is keeping busy doing something as he’s working on the FOX Engine, is overlooking the development of Metal Gear Rising, and is keeping an eye on the recently revealed Enders Project.

Hideo Kojima Issues An Update On The E3 Apperances Of The FOX Engine and Metal Gear Rising

Hideo Kojima is the type of guy who likes to tease people of impending goodness all the time.  When he’s not taking pictures of Spider-Man boxer shorts he recently bought, Kojima is best known for posting a bevy of teases on Twitter that sometimes pan out the way we want them to and sometimes fall short in such a way that Kojima should be the new Troll Face image.

Kojima Productions' FOX Engine Update Shows How Stealthy An Office Can Be

Development may be deep underway on both Project Ogre and the new FOX Engine, but Kojima Productions decided to give us a brief tease of what gamers can expect from the new-fangled engine that will be powering their games.  We’ve already seen Hideo Kojima flaunt some early FOX Engine screens both showcasing an actual prototype of a game scenario along with giving us a glimpse at how the engine can replicate real objects i.e. actual actors with near flawless quality.

Metal Gear Solid Cyborg Ninja Figure Is Revealed And It Looks Amazing

I may already have too many video game related products as it stands now, but I’ll likely be adding a few more items to my collection in the near future – one of which will be this exquisite Cyborg Ninja figure.  Today Hideo Kojima took to his Twitter account to do something somewhat rare: he made a Twitter reveal that wasn’t wrapped in a bundle of secrecy that was also serving as an epic teaser.
