Flower, Sun & Podcast Episode 5: Pop Culture and Design Edition

The official Grasshopper Manufacture podcast is back with another entertaining installment.  Flower, Sun & Podcast co-host Esteban Salazar is holding down the fort this week as co-host John Davis is still abroad in the U.S. still recovering from the SDCC 2010.  Filling in for John this week is Jean Snow, a renowned design guru and seeker of all things pop culture related.

Grasshopper Manufacture Podcast Episode 3: Hoppers Delight

Fridays are always awesome for two reasons: it’s the end of the work week and a new episode of the Grasshopper Manufacture podcast is released.  Always available bright and early on Friday morning, listening to the Grasshopper Manufacture podcast or rather the Flower, Sun & Podcast (official name) is definitely a nice way to cap off the work week for those who enjoy developer podcasts.

Japanese special edition announced for No More Heroes 2 (it's awesome)

I usually don’t double dip on games even if a cool special edition is released.  Usually I’ll hold off on purchasing a game for a 2nd time even if there’s an added bonus since I would prefer not to spend an additional $80-100 just to have something on my shelf.  Well I’m going to be changing my colors today as a Japanese special edition has been announced for No More Heroes 2.

Grasshopper Manufacture Podcast Episode 2: Special Guest Akira Yamaoka

It’s Friday and you know what that means: another installment of the Grasshopper Manufacture podcast. Once again Grasshopper employees Esteban Salazar and John Davis are your hosts and this time they have a very special guest.  Acclaimed composer Akira Yamaoka (Silent Hill 2) joins the show to discuss his career and what gamers can expect from his work on the mysterious Grasshopper EA Partners game.

Grasshopper Manufacture launches their own podcast

Video game developer podcasts are becoming a more common thing and if you ask me that’s a good thing.  We’ve gotten some good developer podcasts already such as the Kojima Productions Report, The Full Moon Show and the recent Irrational Games show. Now Grasshopper Manufacture, the studio behind Killer-7 and No More Heroes, is joining the podcast fray.

Is the No More Heroes franchise over?

It’s early in the morning and my usually bad mood is being intensified by some sad news. Speaking to GoNintendo, Suda 51 revealed he currently has no plans to make a third installment of No More Heroes.  The NMH franchise has never become wildly popular amongst gamers but it does have a loyal following i.e. yours truly Ian Fisher.

No More Heroes: Heroes' Paradise [Review]

Overall Feeling:
When it comes to the core of things No More Heroes: Heroes’ Paradise will probably only please the hardcore fans of the franchise. While it isn’t a broken experience, a few technical mishaps like iffy enemy A.I. and an overall lack of polish hold things back a bit. However it is nice to see the world of NMH brought to life via a nice graphical upgrade which really adds an extra dimension to things.
The Pros:
They may not be awe-inspiring but the visuals are rather nice, even if they lack some details. The blood and gore may be gone but the combat is still generally fun. An engaging and highly original story makes up for the gameplay shortcomings.
The Cons:
At times the enemy lock-on seems to be working against you. The changes to the combat scheme in regards to motion based attacks leave a bit to be desired. Just like its Wii predecessor the overworld completely sucks. Enemy A.I. is spotty and the bosses will sometimes just camp in an area waiting for you. It would’ve been nice if the game had some additional content such as bonus modes or new game features.

[Review] No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle

Overall Feeling:
No More Heroes 2 is one of those rare occasions when the sequel is actually good. While the game doesn’t top its predecessor it does offer some nice improvements which help make the game feel like a proper sequel instead of NMH 1.5. A few of the boss battles are disappointing but the game still offers a nice amount of fun which should please the No More Heroes fans out there and those looking for a solid mature game on the Wii.
The Pros:
Slicing enemies in two is still fun as hell. The visuals and overall presentation has gotten a major upgrade. The boss battles that are fun are really, really fun. Amazing voice acting from a cast of veterans that includes Robin Atkin Downes and Jennifer Hale.
The Cons:
Some of the boss battles aren’t that fun and lack that crazy feel to them. The game as a whole is missing some of the charm that was in NMH1. Shinobu’s platforming sections are terrible.

Three years ago the Wii probably saw the release of one of the defining games for the system in the form of No More Heroes.  From acclaimed developer Suda 51 (Killer 7) and his company Grasshopper Manufacture, the game showed that mature titles on the Wii could work and along with that it was also a bloody good amount of fun that had a compelling story to go along with the uber violent hijinks that filled the game.  Now No More Heroes is back with a sequel that tries hard to top the first game and at times it does but at the end of the day NMH2 doesn't quite reach the same level o

[Video] Suda 51 tells us about No More Heroes 2 while he sits on the toilet

With the release of No More Heroes 2 next week I feel like a kid on Christmas Eve waiting to open his presents.  I’m a huge NMH fan and the past few trailers have put me into hype overdrive mode since the game promises to be even crazier and more enjoyable than the first installment.   Sadly Ubisoft has been doing the best job of promoting the game, in fact they don’t seem to be promoting it at all, but they have released another dev diary for the game featuring the incredible Suda 51.

Learn how to be a badass assassin in this new No More Heroes: Heroes Paradise video

While the Wii will be getting its second helping of No More Heroes awesomesauce next week in the form of No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle, Japanese PS3 and 360 owners are a mere month away from their introduction to the NMH franchise with the release of No More Heroes: Heroes Paradise.

Ultra violence, tigers, kittens, and demonic children are the norm in No More Heroes 2

With each new trailer for No More Heroes 2 things are getting crazier and a whole lot weirder. While crazy and weird is what we expect from the game things are being taken to an unimaginable level based on the footage that was recently released.

Premier trailer for No More Heroes: Heroes' Paradise

There’s nothing better than waking up in the morning and seeing that a trailer for No More Heroes: Heroes' Paradise has been released. As we all know it’s always good to start your day off with a trailer that features buttery beats, slick visuals and a little bit of the ultra violence.

The ESRB tells us how awesome No More Heroes: Desperate Struggle will be

No More Heroes: Desperate Struggle is going to be a crazy ass game and there was never any doubt it wouldn’t be.  The first NMH game had a plethora of sexual innuendos coupled with graphic violence that pleased folks like me who enjoy a little bit of fun ultra violence in their games.

Another No More Heroes story: First images of Heroes' Paradise

If you’re tired of me writing stories about No More Heroes then too bad. I’m a mega fan and when given the opportunity I’ll post a NMH story when I can.  While we all thought it would be awhile before we saw any media for the PS3/360 bound No More Heroes: Heroes’ Paradise since the website didn’t have any media that really isn’t the case.

No More Heroes: Heroes' Paradise site launched and pre-order bonuses announced

I guess the media train for No More Heroes: Heroes’ Paradise is starting to roll since the teaser site for the game has launched today.

Sadly the site doesn’t have any game footage or in-game screenshots but it does have a video of a Japanese wrestler showing off some moves. Now that may sound a bit odd to some but if you know how much No More Heroes creator Suda 51 loves wrestling then this video shouldn’t be that much of a surprise.
