Overall Feeling:
District 9 is one of the most entertaining films I've seen in some time. It may not be entirely thought provoking as you would think it would be but the movie is still extremely solid.
The Pros:
Terrific visuals and acting that is accompanied by a story that is well written and has a pefect pace to it. Neill Blomkamp does a wonderful job directing the movie and has certainly set himself up as one of the directors to watch in the future.
The Cons:
Some more backstory on the prawns or at least their thoughts on things would've been nice. Seeing the impact this alien refugee situation had on the world would've been nice and given things a tad more depth.
By now we’re all accustomed to stories that tell the tales of mysterious alien ships coming to Earth and either landing or hovering above iconic landscapes across the globe. Tales like this have been spun across a wide range of media ranging from radio dramas, novels and of course movies. Films like “Independence Day” and “War of the Worlds” have dealt the subject matter differently with one being an action yarn while the other is a drama involving a man protecting his family not only from the aliens but from his fellow humans.
