Rise of the Tomb Raider [Review]

Overall Feeling:

Crystal Dynamics set a high bar of quality when they rebooted Tomb Raider in 2013, so naturally its sequel, Rise of the Tomb Raider, needed to up the bar once again; it's done that and more. Built on its solid foundations from the reboot, Lara takes part in an engaging adventure complete with beautiful landscapes, plenty of optional tombs, brain-wracking puzzles, and exciting new combat abilities for a memorable journey that should be had by everyone.

The Pros:

+Graphically impressive
+Improved crafting system
+Numerous optional tombs and collectibles

The Cons:

-Bigger focus on mandatory combat sections
-Predictable plot tropes
-Accidental deaths due to controls Rating :

I don't think many people were expecting Tomb Raider to make as big of a return that it did back in the 2013 reboot, save for Crystal Dynamics. I know it took me by surprise with its exciting traversing and combat coupled with an engaging story and believable voice acting. Tomb Raider was a success at becoming relevant once again and two years later we finally have the much anticipated follow-up to continue Lara's journey.

Rise of the Tomb Raider [X-15 Preview]

No new Rise of the Tomb Raider footage was shown at X-15, but developer Crystal Dynamic did reveal some interesting new details about Lara Croft's next big adventure.

Players can expect a much bigger world in Rise of the Tomb Raider. While speaking at X-15 in Toronto on Wednesday, lead combat designer Philippe Therien explained the game would be three times bigger than its predecessor.

New Tomb Raider Movie Gains Notable Film Partner

More progress has been made on the forthcoming theatrical reboot of the Tomb Raider franchise.  Under the creative eye of GK Films, the latest attempt to bring Ms. Lara Croft to life now has a major distributor/backer to help bring the tomb raiding exploits to the big screen.

Small Update Given For New Tomb Raider Movie

Perhaps poised to go nowhere due to the politics of making a film and whether or not the game is truly a success, a minor update has been given concerning the new Tomb Raider movie.

After two live-action entries featuring Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft were released during the original heyday of the Tomb Raider franchise, production company GK Films announced their plans to do a new Tomb Raider movie to coincide with Square Enix’s video game reboot.

Square Enix Files Legacy of Kain Related Domain

Our long awaited return to Nosgoth could finally become a reality based on a recent development. After being whispered for the past two years, Square Enix may have finally settled on a new installment in the Legacy of Kain/Soul Reaver series based on a domain name that was filed.

Tomb Raider Trailer Shows More Action and Lara In Distress

Once again the Spike VGAs gave gamers and the ultra mainstream audience a “taste” of the games industry, or a very small piece of it, in addition to an array of new glimpses of existing games.  Most of us may still be trying to wrap our heads around what Hideo Kojima did with The Phantom Pain, but there were some more direct and less trollish trailers such as the extended look at the new Tomb Raider reboot.

The Voice Of The New Lara Croft Is Officially Announced

This may be old news to some, but now Square Enix has made it “official” by announcing which actress has the honor to provide both the voice and mocap for Lara Croft in the new Tomb Raider game. The voice acting for Lara Croft in the latest reboot of Tomb Raider has been the source of contention amongst some as it has been a bit heavy on the moaning, which may either be your thing or simply an annoyance that could ruin an otherwise great game and character.

Tomb Raider Preview [E3 2012]

Video games may not have been around for as nearly as films have been or even classic literature, but there are a few characters as iconic as protagonists like Hamlet or film icons like Han Solo.  Characters like Link and Mario are timeless video game characters who have manage to stay relevant as the years have gone by.  One character who in a lot of ways broke a few of the longtime molds of the video game industry was none other than Lara Croft, the star of the Tomb Raider franchise.  For nearly twenty years Ms.

Legacy of Kain Could Finally Be Coming Back [Rumor]

We may soon receive one of those rare occasions in which we’ll receive a sequel or at least a reboot of a video games series that deserves to make a triumphant return. For years there’s been a dedicated sect of gamers who wanted to see the Legacy of Kain series continue in any fashion, either through games focused on Kain or somehow further continue the Raziel series even though his journey seemingly came to a rather ironic and bittersweet ending.

Former God of War Director Joins Crystal Dynamics

A longtime industry veteran has now found a permanent home in a somewhat unlikely place.  God of War 2 Director Cory Barlog has now joined Crystal Dynamics (Tomb Raider) in a yet to be revealed capacity.  The man behind the second God of War game left Sony Santa Monica shortly after the game released to pursue greener pastures, one of which was working on a Mad Max video game.
