Crysis 2

QuarterSave: The Gamescom Special EP49

This week has been a rather eventful week. Gamescom has come and gone, and in its wake there have emerged a plethora of video game news and media. In order to celebrate the tidal wave of new information that came this week Corey and I focus on the news stories of the week while enjoying a nice German beer.

Crysis 2 multiplayer footage takes the battle to the rooftops of New York

Crysis was a major hit on the PC, even if half the gamers who played the game weren’t able to reach the maximum performance levels to fully enjoy the jaw dropping graphics. But now it’s time for Crysis 2 to hit the PS3 and Xbox 360 and given the flooded market of fps games available, Crysis may have a tough battle in terms of breaking through to certain gamers.

Crysis 2: Nano Edition revealed (it's a pricey limited edition)

We all know that Crysis 2 just wouldn’t be the same let alone have the same impact if it didn’t have a limited/special/collector’s/we want your money edition.  I’m of course kidding as Crysis 2 can stand on its own weight without the aid of a limited edition. But of course since it’s a high profile release, Crysis 2 is indeed getting a Limited Edition which is of the “it’s cool but kind of goofy” variety.

EA announces new release date for Crysis 2

We’ve been hit with yet another major delay for a video game and this time it’s Crysis 2.  The delay was announced at EA’s earning call yesterday and developer Crytek’s sequel to the hit fps game will now drop in early 2011.

New Crysis 2 trailer tears apart New York City

I don’t know what it is about New York that warrants it to be destroyed in so many films and video games. Aside from some testy traffic and the fact that you’re always a mere 4 feet away from a rat (real fact btw) the city of New York is a terrific place. But for some reason when it comes to figuring out where to set an apocalyptic event New York is always the #1 choice.

Crysis 2 Contest Gets Your Name in the Game

Everyone likes contests, and some of the best are not about receiving a product, but instant celebrity. To help build hype for the upcoming Crysis 2, EA has started a contest to help you gain your 15 minutes of fame. The contest revolves around the idea of getting your name (or gamertag) into the upcoming Crysis 2 game… in the form of graffiti. That’s right! Should you win this contest, their graphics team will set to work making you a slick custom graffiti tag that will appear throughout the game.

Extended Crysis 2 trailer features beautiful visuals and alien mayhem

On early Wednesday a brief teaser trailer for Crysis 2 was released. Doing what teaser trailers are meant to do, this quick look at Crysis 2 left us yearning for more.  Well like clockwork a full length Crysis 2 trailer has been released and once again it’s a “holy sh!t” moment.

Starting off a bit slow, but still beautiful to look at, this extended trailer eventually gives us what we want: aliens tearing stuff up.  The alien mayhem is kept to a minimum but still looked amazing especially since that was only a standard encounter of sorts.

New Crysis 2 teaser trailer shown in New York

I haven’t been following Crysis 2 too closely, despite my interest in the project. But maybe I should keep a closer eye on things since Crytek and EA are slowly releasing new videos for the project. Announced via their Twitter page yesterday, a new maybe pre-rendered trailer (it’s honestly hard to tell with since Crytek are graphics gods) was shown in New York City’s famous Times Square.

Off-screen footage of Crysis 2, i.e. a somewhat fuzzy tech demo vid

When Crysis was released on the PC it was an absolute powerhouse that required the most high end graphics cards and set-ups in order to play.  Now it’s time for the inevitable sequel and developer Crytek is aiming to achieve the same level of quality that was found on the PC but this time have it be possible on the PS3 and Xbox 360.

EA sets their release schedule for the next year

Last week was THQ’s turn to boast about their financial earnings and today it was Electronic Arts’ turn.  Overall earnings for the company were ok (they only lost a measly $82 million) but most gamers could care less about things concerning percentages and millions of dollars earned/lost as most simply care about when the games are coming out.
