Game-to-Movie Franchises That Scream “WHY?”

When I began writing this piece, I originally went in with a different motif: I was thinking to myself (as we nerdy types often do) what game properties I wanted to see become film franchises. Granted, for every half-decent movie (Resident Evil) we get what amounts to horrible, slow-rotting leprosy (Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li). I had my comprehensive list all typed up, I had my points arranged, and I was ready to fire it off. Somehow, in the midst of my research, I had managed to miss the fact that three out of four of my choices had already been tentatively announced.

Angry Birds Movie Is Still A Thing, New Creative Talent Announced

Easily put into the section of “Why is this happening?” that gamers sometimes like to go into upon hearing a piss-poor announcement, some additional details have been shared on the Angry Birds movie.  After becoming a run away success which has given Rovio a new golden goose which has enabled them to partner up with LucasArts and Star Wars for maximum cash grab potential, Angry Birds is now set on ruling the world of cinema as well.

Angry Birds Star Wars Is Officially A Thing

Our worst fears have come true as Angry Birds Star Wars is an actual thing.  After being teased last Friday with a near horrifying image of an Angry Bird character dressed as a Jedi Knight, LucasArts and Rovio have announced their partnership which does indeed span video games, toys, and even Halloween costumes.

Angry Birds Is Teaming Up With Star Wars For A Mystery Project

The Star Wars franchise may officially be beyond the point of no return as far as its video game efforts are concerned.  We may all love a good space battle or a lightsaber fight, but the Star Wars franchise is now traveling into a level of product cross-over/pure cash grab moment that may be completely unjustified.
